Montian Boontan thanks govt for promoting rights of the disabled

BANGKOK, 8 July 2016 (NNT) – Montian Boontan, the Thai with eyesight disability who has been chosen as member of the United Nation’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) for another term from 2017 until 2020, visited Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House to thank the government for promoting the rights of the disabled.

Social Development and Human Security Minister Adul Saengsingkaew brought Mr. Montian to meet with the premier.

The premier expressed his congratulations and praises for his being a model for the Thais who may pursue knowledge and skills despite physical disabilities while Mr. Montien thanked the government for promoting the rights of the disabled.

Mr. Montian asked the premier to address the issues related to the allocation of lottery quota and the premier agreed to have the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security consult with the Government Lottery Office to find solutions to the problem.

The premier said the Thai government has pushed forward measures in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, such as equal access to basic human rights and freedom which involves politics, society and culture.

Maybe I am over critical, but I find the phrase in the OP that Mr Montian was "BROUGHT" to meet the premier patronising and offensive.

I do not believe it is simply poor use of the language, but demonstrates the attitude towards less able bodied people in this country.

Try pushing a wheelchair along any pavement, rights don't extend very far in real life
