Bus crash on Highway 304 injuring over 20

KORAT: - An interprovincial bus from Rayong to Surin skidded and flipped onto its side in Wang Nam Khiao district of Nakhon Ratchasima early Friday, injuring over 20 passengers, four seriously.

The accident happened on Highway 304 at Kilometre marker 243 between Kabinburi and Nakhon Ratchasima’s Wang Nam Khiao district at 1.00am.

Udomsap station police in Wang Nam Khieu said the bus belonged to Nakhonchai Air Co Ltd.

Bus driver Chan Kodphan told police that it was raining when the VIP bus with 30 passengers was running downhill on a slippery section of the highway.

He said the bus skidded when it was entering a curve, crashing on the hillside and flipping on its side.

Fortunately nobody was killed as passengers had fastened to the seat belts, he said.

However police said 20 passengers were admitted to Wang Nam Khiao hospital, suffering from bruises and broken fingers and hands, four seriously.

The driver was booked for questioning and initially charged with reckless driving.

Putting your life in the hands of Thai bus drivers! No thanks

Ah, my daily bus crash fix. Weather conditions, downhill, on a curve. Dangerous world. Best wishes to the injured fastened to the seats.

Would have been stupid of the driver to slow due to the conditions, definitely lose time over something that may not even happen.

Nakhonchai Air has a reputation as being one of the safer bus companies. It will be interesting to see what their reaction to this is.

The busdriver had his brain tested.
This is the result.

True.. though the schedules and fines for being late do not help the bus drivers. I agree mainly the drivers mistake, however bus-companies should also be held responsible.

Yeah right, how many was really wearing a seat belt? Close to zero is my guess...

Another traffic accident, another 1000 comments , same old same old.

c,mon give the guy a break, it was the wet road and sharp curve to blame, (see, i am thinking like a thai already) lol

They forgot to add, brakes didn't work.

The roads should go around the hills-l

This stretch of road must have a claim to being the most dangerous in Thailand - and it really isn't that bad for a cautious driver in a decent vehicle, but it does have a large number of morons driving it on a regular basis. This driver quite likely knows it well, if he is a regular on that route. Familiarity breeds contempt?

A sad reflection on the state of the roads/driving skills/safety standards when a bus crash that doesn't kill dozens is barely newsworthy.

Not often you hear about bus accidents like these compared to mini-vans. And everyone survived.

If I had to choose I'd still travel with a big bus.

Actually yours was only the 9th comment

I don't know this road at all so maybe it has bends on it , gradients on it too. This and wet road surface .... what is a bus driver to do but roll the bus over.

Bus driver Chan Kodphan told police that it was raining

And this is one of the better bus companies--VIP.
