Obama praises slain Dallas police officers for saving lives at fatal protest

DALLAS: -- President Obama has praised Dallas police at a memorial service in the Texan city for five officers shot dead last week in the deadliest day for US law enforcement in almost 15 years.

The five officers were gunned down by a man expressing anger over recent police killings of black people.

The president told his audience that police do an incredibly hard and dangerous job fairly and professionally, adding that officers deserved respect and not scorn.

“I am here to insist that we are not as divided as we seem, and I know that because I know America,” Obama said, before citing the actions of police during the Dallas shooting as an example.

“When the bullets started flying, the men and women of the Dallas police, they did not flinch and they did not react recklessly, they showed incredible restraint. Helped in some cases by protesters, they evacuated the injured, isolated the shooter, saved more lives than we will ever know,” the president went on.

Barack Obama – who was due to meet the families of the police victims – also addressed the wider problems of America’s race relations. The murders happened at a protest over police violence against black victims.

He drew parallels between Dallas and the shooting of nine black people inside a South Carolina church last year.

And he reiterated a call for stricter gun control in the US – an appeal as ever likely to fall on deaf ears in Congress.

Wow more mass shootings on his watch than any other.

What a F@#ked up social issue to have to deal with.

Dallas is in a very laxist state regarding weapons and this prove one thing :
Even with armed citizen it didn t change sh!t to the massacre! Where are all the NRA fanboys and gun polishers who always come with "if they had a gun..blabla..."?

There were between 20-30 open carry activists in the crowd at the protest, not much use against a military trained concealed shooter, also with so many police the chance for unintended concequences ... scary.

The "NRA fanboys" with common sense were probably home polishing their guns and watching it all go down on TV.

Ironical to your post, it was "common senseless" Mark Hughes, the reported brother of the protest organizer who was carrying a rifle at the "peaceful" BLM protest:

"Of course the cops wanted to talk to Hughes. He was at the protest carrying a rifle when a bunch of police officers were gunned down by someone with a rifle. They'd be crazy not to want to talk to him. A witness allegedly reported - wrongly - that she saw him firing or participating in the attack in some way. But that's exactly the kind of misunderstanding that you'd expect in a chaotic situation when someone's shooting people and you see someone carrying the kind of gun doing the shooting."

But Hey! Maybe Mark Hughes is an "NRA fanboy"! Whadya think?

This prove my point:

in crisis situation, the NRA fanboys will run away or be targetted by Police, confusing them and make their action slowers.

But hey! maybe all the witnesses who openly carried a gun (20 were interviewed on local tv) were just sh.tting their pants and wanted to flee instead of playing the Hero...

So the only thing it brought for this event : confusion, and a proof the average citizen will just run away...

Thanks to help me mark my point!
