Extension of stay following a visa extension without having to get a new visa ?

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

my situation is as follows: I've have had 3 visa exemptions, 1 visa which i extended (6 months of stay altogether). I'm soon running to the end of my visa extension (23rd of july) but i'm unsure about the future. The only thing i know is that i would like to stay 2 more weeks (end of my rent) to think whether i stay longer or not.

Therefore, i would like to avoid the fuss of having to go to Vientiane to get a new visa (just for two weeks), and was wondering whether it wouldn't exist a easier and cheaper way to get those extra two weeks. I would prefer to avoid to overstay, in order to avoid to have a bad visa history.

Thanks in advance

No, you will have to leave for a new visa.

Only if you extend yearly you don't need a new entry.

Extensions of stay are not just "given", you need a reason for one.

A reason can be such as visiting a child or Thai wife.

So the question is, what is the reason it should be granted?

Otherwise, if you can't find a valid reason to stay here another weeks, you will have to go somewhere to get another visa to stay for that two weeks you need.

All, right, tks. Then it seems to be no way around this (in)famous visa.

Do you guys think i should be fine in Vientiane to get my visa (2nd at a row) given my history (3 exemptions ,1 visa and extension and 1 reentry permit).

Last time i came back to Thailand (reentered coming from kl with a reentry permit), the immigration officer looked at my passport a long time, and then called his collegue who did the same. Finally ok, but a bit scary.

The point is that i would like to take no risk to get stranded in Laos with all my stuff left at my place in BKK.

Cheers

I do not think getting a visa in Vientiane, Savannakhet or Penang would be a problem.

Note that if you only needed 7 days (perhaps just deciding to forgo the remainder of your paid rent, you could apply for an extension (denied) and be given 7 days to leave the country. This would not adversely effect your immigration history.

Ok, thanks for your reply. This seven days trick is good to know, but i think for now it's safer to go for a visa, crossing my fingers.

Could you guys tell me at which of those 2 locations i would have the best chances to get my visa hassle-free (no flight ticket requirement, no questions, etc...):

Penang or Vientiane ? The problem is that i find VTE sooooooooo boring, i would like to avoid it.

Both are the same. The only difference is that you can use an agent to handle the visa application and pickup in Penang.
