Can I go out any day to the airport and buy a re-entry permit ? (I live close to it) Or I must do it when I fly?. Is the office before or after where I have to show a boarding card?

You need a boarding pass to get a re-entry permit at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The office is now located in the departure hall. Previously it was after the security check.

If you live in Samut Prakan you can go to the immigration office there.

There is a re-entry permit desk at Don Mueang that is located after the departure immigration desks. As far as I know it is still open 24 hours a day since I have seen no reports of the hours changing to the same hours as Suv.

then no need to worry about leaving & having to get at airport.

The Samut Prakarn Immigration office is quite a trek from Samut Prakarn's Suvarnabhumi Airport unfortunately, is extremely small and busy, and is a real pain to find parking, so I can understand the OP's reluctance go to the Imm office. In the past, there used to be a little temporary immigration office desk in the Novotel Suvarnabhumi hotel to do 90 days, re-entry visas, etc, and I used to enjoy going so I could partake of the hotels great buffet and all in works time

I think the chance of immigration at the airport being closed is nil. However, there could be a small chance that the airline's online check in is not working, and it takes so long to get a boarding pass at the airport that there is no longer time (about 15 minutes) to get the re-entry permit before rushing to security. This would be extremely unlucky, but conceivable.

I agree about the multiple but getting a single when you extend makes a lot of sense to me. I extended in Feb and got a single even though I had

no plans to leave within a year but tomorrow I'm heading back to the US due to unforeseen circumstances. I always get a single while extending

and ALWAYS wind up using it. For B1800 (?) it's cheap insurance against having one more thing to worry about when leaving.

Only 1,000 THB for a single-entry re-entry permit. But definitely agree that it's a good idea to get one at the same time as your extension if practicable.

BTW the specific location of the (relatively) new re-entry permit office at Suvarnabhumi is at the end of row H of Departures (as checked personally a couple of months ago).

When I recently passed by there around noon it was almost empty.

 

The office is in the departure hall, level 4.

Depending where you walk from it's up to 200 m walk(?) on level 4.

From other points at the airport xxx m.
