Cigars in CM?

Hi all,

Where to find cigars in CM? I see the last post on this was from 2014. Any updated info?

I made the mistake of not getting some from BKK. I'm not looking for Cohibas, just the small Romeos or Villiger types.

You can buy larger Cuban cigars at El Patio restaurant on Nimman soi 11 or at the Anantara resort near the river. Expect to pay 1000 THB/stick and up.

You can buy some of the lesser expensive Cuban cigars (H Upmann, Partagas, Montecristo petit coronas in tubos) and Villiger/Cuban minis at a liquor/tobacco store near the night bazaar. To find it, walk to the end of Loi Kroh Rd (passing Red Lion on your left and the Down Under on the right just before the street ends.) At the end of the street, turn left, walk approx two blocks on the left side of the street until you get to the store. It's pretty obvious which store it is since the storefront is filled with small cigars and pipe/loose tobacco. There's a yellow sign with a deer's head on it in front of the store. This place also has a small humidor with the aforementioned Cuban corona sized cigars. Those will be 450-550 THB and up.

Finally, you can find Villiger type cigars and Philippine cigars at a different liquor/tobacco store that is also near the night bazaar. To find it, walk down Loi Kroh Rd until it intersects with Changklan Rd (Le Meridien is on the corner). Turn left after crossing Changklan Rd (so turn left at the Burger King and walk in the direction away from The Duke's/McDonald's) and walk about one city block to the store. You'll see the glass case outside the store containing the cigars. There's a red sign hanging above the store just prior to the liquor/tobacco store. The Philippine cigars will be 55-100 THB each.

Well... I just discovered today that they are opening a Casa Habano (to be called Cigar Room) just behind the Ducati dealer in Nimman soi 9. They are busy renovating the building but looks to be about a month away. Illustrations on the banner show a smoking lounge and everything. Woot!

Special thanks to Diplomatico. I went to the last place you mentioned, it's exactly there, about 2 min walk from Le Meridien.

It's basically a liquor store, but they have lots of cigars/cigarillos (machine-made brands).

I even saw pipe tobacco(!). Don't expect "esoteric" brands, just Borkum Riff, Captain Black.

But the prices, oh boy! 300 baht for the Cafe Creme tin of 10, 260-270 baht for the King Edward 5-pack cigarillos (not the Coronas). ie. about 1.5-2 times the retail (online) price in the US.

The Duty Free prices in Seoul are worse than BKK...for cigars. I've had good luck at Narita, but my flights don't seem to go through there, anymore. BTW, CNX Duty Free.....Jameson is 1120 per litre and Jim Beam is 700. No cigars at CNX (except the ones in my luggage, lol).

Diplomatico,

I'm directing a friend who is from out of town to this store via e-mail.
Is it before or after the Pornping Hotel as you walk towards Narawat Bridge.
Thank you.

I'd say before the Pornping Hotel.  I'm not really that familiar with that particular hotel (I mean, I know roughly where it is but don't use it for landmark purposes) but looking at Google Maps I'd say the shop is closer to Loi Kroh than it is to Thaepae Rd.  At worst, equidistant between the two streets.  It's not too difficult to find after you take the left at the end of Loi Kroh.

It,s on Chang Klahn....about 140 meters north of the Night Bazaar McDonald's, which is at the intersection of Loi Kroh and Chang Klahn Rds.

Not the same place.  The one @gwanoy has quoted me on is on the next street down, at the complete end of Loi Kroh (past the Down Under).  The one on Chang Klan doesn't stock Cuban cigars.

u r correct, solly...I was fairly impressed with Duty Free at Munich coming over...especially if you can manage with the smaller ones....first time I've seen prices competitive with Famous and Thompson in a while.

Casa Habano is open Nimman soi 9 (behind the Ducati dealer). Prices not cheap but not unlike prices in Canada. They have comfortable sofas and chairs for smoking in the store. If you're looking for a bargain, this is not the place. But if you're looking for a good cigar and a place to enjoy it, this may be it.
