NEDA and JICA sign MOU on Mekong sub-region development cooperation

BANGKOK, 15 July 2016, (NNT) - The Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the development of the Mekong sub-region.

The signing ceremony was chaired by Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong, who stated that the MOU seeks to promote social and economic advancement in the region and foster connectivity along the Mekong economic corridor. He said that emphasis will be placed on developing infrastructure and managing regulations. The minister is confident that these goals will be realized smoothly with the help of NEDA and JICA.

The two agencies will devise a framework and vision together, which will be based on the interests of each participating nation.

NEDA is Thailand’s international development aid agency, officially established on May 27th, 2005 as a public organization under the supervision of the Finance Minister. Since its inception, the organization has provided more than 15 billion baht's worth of financial and academic support to neighboring countries in forms of infrastructure and connectivity projects.
