A good orthopedic hand surgeon in Bangkok? Not expensive!

Hi,

Reading the forums, i noticed 'Dr.Panupan Songcharoen,' is the best from Oxford but he has quoted me over the phone for 120,000 baht to get 2 screws taken out of my hand. I can get the same operation done in Australia (private health) for 40,000 baht. I will need a general for the operation.

Anyone know a good hand surgeon for 20-30k bath in BKK?

Dr. Panupan is who I would have recommended. He is at several different hospitals and costs would vary depending on which one you had it done at. Personally I would see him at Phyathai and I very much doubt it would cost anything near that.

Was it actually the doctor you spoke to? As it is rare to get a doctor on the phone like that and such queries are usually referred to an international marketing dept and will yield greatly inflated estimates.

Generally not a good idea to try to get orice quotes by phone or email for that reason. Best to just go see the doctor in person if possible.

Hi Dr panupan is the man for the job , i recently had hand surgery and he is fantastic , i would advise visiting his surgery at Chaophya hospital , he is only there once a week Thursdays between 6pm and 7pm , the quote you received will have been from the marketing department as the above post suggests, avoid phyathai hospital at all costs , they wanted 250.000 baht for dr panupan to do the surgery at there hospital , i had the surgery done at chaophya hospital for

150.000 baht a saving of 100,000 baht .

He is and excellent surgeon and a really nice person , the chaophya hospital website is hard work to make an appointment , i turned up in person to make an appointment but it was worth the effort and i am sure it will cost a lot less than the amount you mentioned

He can also be seen at the Siriraj Hospital private wing by appointment most days and cost likely less than either Phyathai or Chao Phya. Call center 1474.

Phyathai is not usually that expensive as long as you stir clear of their international dept/marketing dept.

I call 'phythai 2 international hospital sanmpao' up first, someone called me back and then someone referred me to his nurse (i believe) that called me back and wanted to see my x-rays. She then called me back with a rubbish price which I laughed and said I can get it done for less then 1/2 the price in Australia.

It did sound like the marketing team just by the way the girl was talking to me. I think i might go see him in person like you guys said.

I have an appointment with him at 6pm tomorrow at Chaophya Hospital, I wonder how much cheaper the cost will be in person.

The hospital is very good they will give you a proper printed printed estimate for all costs if you ask , where as phythai hospital gave me a scribbled piece of paper with a number that came in to there heads , i can only talk about my experience with the two hospitals where i had a consultation with the same doctor and Chaophya Hospital won hands down, when you walk in to the hospital , registration is on the right as you walk in and orthopaedics directly opposite on the left , good luck let me know how you get on

I just met Dr panupan at Chaophya Hospital and he is a really great guy that you can trust! Great energy!! We had a talk about the operation where I had the option of a local or a general anesthesia.

These are qutoes!

Local = 30,000-50,000 baht

General = about twice as much

In Australia without private for a general it's 100,000 baht so it's about the same price. I have private health insurance in Australia and I know it's about 30,000-40,000 baht. For a local in Australia it's not much cheaper.

He also said a government hospital would be cheaper 20-30k for a local.

You were right Sherly, it's so much cheaper to go see the doctor.I told Dr panupan about the 120,000 baht quote the other day and he said the marketing team ALWAYS gives the maximum price! Today's consultation was 1700 baht where over the phone yesterday the lady said 500-1000 baht, where after complaining I only paid 1200 baht

I just don't have trust in the Thai hospital costs where I feel they just going to charge me an extra arm and a leg with extra costs if I have surgery here. I've read allot of horror stories on this forum and have experienced it myself so i'm going to head back to Australia and get it done without stress!
