Applying for a New Non-B

Featured Replies

Hi, need some guidance on applying for a new non-b.

I will be leaving my current job on Friday 5th August, working up until that evening (so impossible to go to immigration this day).

I plan to take the minivan run to Laos on Tuesday 9th (after getting all the paperwork from my new job) to get my new non-B sorted.

Will I be okay if I get a letter from the school confirming my last day of employment as the 5th and turning up at Immigration first thing on Monday morning to cancel my visa? I will then need to pay the 1,900 for another 7 days?

Or is there anyway I can just turn up at the border with the letter from the school and sort it out there?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Couldn't you talk to your school that they issue a letter that your last day was the 8th?

If not, it might be better to go and see the Immigration, they might be okay, or tell you to pay one day overstay, as there's a weekend between.

Make sure that you've got your police clearance. best of luck.

I will ask them. They are a little upset at me leaving regardless of the fact I have given them over 5 weeks notice. I'm not too sure if they will agree, but I will definitely ask.

If I can convince them to write the letter for the 8th can I just turn up at the border with the letter and problem solved?

If you departed the country on the 8th with the letter it would not be a problem. On the 9th you would be on a one day overstay and would be fined 500 baht.

But if his last working day was the 8th then wouldn't he be okay to leave on the ninth without a day overstay?

You never mentioned a work permit? If you haven't got one, okay. But if you do, it has to be cancelled as well.

Even if they're upset that you're leaving ( a very positive sign, indeed) they might have no problem to write the eighth instead of the fifth as your last day.

If you are on a work permit, please be aware that you usually have to do your tax clearance as well. The forms are downloadable.

The extension would be cancelled on the 8th since it is the last day of work. When the extension is cancelled you have until midnight to leave the country.

Thanks Joe. That's a really weird law, in no way in favor for foreigners. But 500 baht overstay is still cheaper than applying for a visa, ( also time wasting, etc..)

Yes I do have a work permit, from what I had read online I thought I would be still okay to get the new non-B regardless of when they cancel my work permit, thought this would just be a problem when I get my new permit?

So as I cross the border out I need to provide proof that BOTH the visa and the permit have been cancelled by the school? Or would just the letter from the school with the 9th suffice?

I'm certain my school will do everything properly, just don't know if they will be so quick as to have it all done in a couple of days.

You will just need to show the letter to immigration when you depart the country. Immigration will not be concerned about the work permit being cancelled.

You current work permit must be canceled before a new one can be issued.

Two things; how is that a "weird law"? Your permission to stay ends one day, you leave that day, simple and logical. Also, just why do you think Thailand should have any laws that favour foreigners?

As previously mentioned, you MUST submit a Police Clearance Certificate when applying for a non-immigrant B visa for teaching in Vientiane, Laos. Without it, you won't get one.

Anyone know how long this takes if you pick it up? I plan to go 27th as this is the only week day I can get there without missing any teaching- this would give me just under two weeks to get it back. Would this be okay? The site says up to 30 days so I'm panicking a bit...

AFAIK, 30 days or a bit less.
