Cumberland sausage is a ring sausage. Why are these links?

Wondered the same myself.

Article 44 perhaps. Cannot think of another good reason other than multi use packaging.

"Traditional" cumberland sausages are indeed not links.

As in many things now "traditional " has lost its true value.

Cumberland sausages are commonly made as links now and the meat % is far reduced from traditional.

These are still, because of the added herbs able to be called Cumberland Sausages.

However , the name is patented as "Traditional Cumberland Sausage" and if advertised as such must be ring sausage and contain a higher % of meat, which is actually coarsely chopped and not ground.
