"No country can become an EU member state if it introduces the death penalty"

BRUSSELS: -- It is “critical we stand together”.

So says US Secretary of State John Kerry after meeting European counterparts on Monday in the wake of the Bastille Day terror attack in Nice. He described Thursday’s massacre, claimed by ISIL, as an ‘act of savagery’.

In Brussels, John Kerry also spoke out on the attempted coup in Turkey, saying that the US supports bringing those involved to justice but that Ankara must uphold the rule of law.

Respect for human rights by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government was equally stressed by European foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, at a joint news conference.

Amid talk of capital punishment being restored in Turkey – which hopes to join the EU – she warned that no country can become a member if it introduces the death penalty.

and there lies another reason for Brexit, these people telling you what you can and cannot do in your own country.

Yes, ignorant and ethically underdeveloped people must have the right to determine the laws against the intelligence. Be quiet. British economy will crash, but new submarines with nuclear rockets will be built to save the independence, the sovereignty of .................(what?)

like the German defense minister applauding that Britain's impending exist means no one will be left to block Germany's EU plans. So she can get on with creating a EU army. Have the other 26 Member States been consulted - Nein. This will be a EU army, so why should they be!

There are a number of EU appointees like this Italian woman who are slowly speaking more and more as if the Untied Federal Republic of Europe is a reality.

I voted to remain because I wanted Britain to fight this federalization - not chicken out. Now watch EU become more central, more federal and more neo liberal left. And guess who will be the ruler - it ain't gonna be the French!

What are you rabbiting on about?

Forgetting your bigoted wishful thinking, yes Britain will retain its nuclear deterrent and will press the button if necessary. No it won't allow a bunch of neo liberal left wing politicians and their appointed bureaucrats to take over running the country and making all the decisions like some spineless nations will.

The EU can and has informed Turkey they do not accept applications from countries who have the death penalty. That's fine. The US has no right to tell Turkey how to respond. They might address their own issues around the death penalty, and death at the hands of police etc before lecturing others.

And you think the new Sultan Erdogan of Turkey and his new Islamic state will listen to Europe of the Americans. I don't think so
