I'm spinning my wheels.. VPN issues, Here.

I have 3bb internet both at home and work.

I’ve set up a VPN server on the Asus router at work so i can access the computers when I’m away.

The OpenVPN works flawlessly as long as i’m on a landline internet connection on the 3bb network. Both home and work have 3bb internet.

But when I tether with my TrueMobile or DTAC I can’t even ping the router. 3bb I can ping it just fine.

I’ve notice the WAN IP on the router is different from when I type in My IP in google.

Maybe 3bb somehow blocks incoming pings? I configured a PPTP VPN also, and it's the same scenario. What it boils down to is i can't ping the router at work unless i'm on the 3bb network.. I'm using No-IP as my DDNS Service. It works and updates overtime i reboot the router.

I’m thinking it’s either the mobile services not allowing me to ping the 3bb network or vice versa. But not sure.

I’m running ASUSWRT-Merlin with the latest .59 firmware.

Anybody experienced this? Any work arounds?

Thanks..

Sounds like 3bb may be using Carrier-Grade NAT on your work connection which means you don't have a public IP address.

That may explain why you are able to connect from another 3bb connection but not from outside their network.

Can you try connecting from somewhere else. That would help to confirm it.

If this is the case, if you call 3bb they should be able to switch you to a true public IP.

Depends on internet traffic. If there are too many wifi's in your area you might be sharing with others.
