With ED visa from Pattaya to immigration to get papers

Featured Replies

Hi all,

One of my friends, who's living close to where I live in Thailand, has got an ED visa from a visa service from Pattaya. He's paying a lot of money for that, but that's all up to him. Now he bought a motorbike and wants to put it on his name but he needs papers for that what he can get at the immigration.

Now he's going to the immigration with his passport and his visa from Pattaya. He doesn't have any school where he studies, only the visa.

How dangerous is this? And no, it's NOT about me!;)

It could be a problem if he has fake stamps. Not sure what he has though. Does he have a visa from an embassy or consulate or an extension of stay.

If a visa he would be leaving the country every 90 days for a new entry.

No danger. You only need recidental certification to buy bike. I did it earlier this year in Pattaya with certificate from Jomtien immigration.

Just a hint. With edu visa he can apply for real drivers license. This was one of the first things I did when I had edu visa. Got international drivers licensen from home country. Filled forms. Got both bike and car license 2 hours later without any tests.

Second tip: Bangkok plates on bike gives face. Better resale value.

He's paying 55.000thb per year to get an ED visa. Every 90 days he's sending his passport back to Pattaya with EMS and a couple of days later he got it back with a new 90 day entry or report, not sure about that. He has got no school, he doesn't study, only he has the visa.

I don't think it is a visa. Probably extensions of stay every 90 days plus 90 day reports.

But can the immigration see there he stays here "illegally"?

Immigration are the ones doing the extensions. Most likely an under the table deal worked out with them by the agent and possibley a school that is providing some bogus supporting documents,

Agreed, this is exactly what is happening, I have been offered the same deal (not taken)

Unfortunately, if the permit to stay is genuine, your friend will probably have no problem dealing with immigration. However, if he's living away from Pattaya and the other immigration office get suspicious, they might ask questions about how/where he attends school. If he can't speak any Thai he's also at risk of being caught out.

The OP's friend does not visit the Immigration for his 90 day extensions so there would be no risk of him being caught out

In fact if he is on the same deal as I have been offered then the chances of him having issues with Immigration are zero, i'm sure you can work the rest out thumbsup.gif

It's good that you declined the services of these agents/schools providing fraudulent support for people like the OP's friend. They are the very reason why those here genuinely to study are experiencing a hard time. I know exactly how it works, I too was offered it years ago.

The risk I see for the OP's friend is on the assumption that he's living in another province, with permission to stay issued by Pattaya to study in Pattaya, and is asking for a residency certificate using using a local address. If that is the situation it's not unrealistic for an IO to question him about his Thai studies and who knows where that would lead. That said, I agree that it's unlikely this person will get caught out.

My post of he will have ZERO problems with Immigration if he is on the same deal that I have been offered should be enough to work it out thumbsup.gif
