PHUKET: -- The Land Department has concluded a Naka Noi land ownership dispute by revoking land ownership documents held by Six Mountain Company Co Ltd.

Land Department Director-General Apinun Suetanuwong told the Phuket Gazette that he would side with the standing committee presiding over the dispute on July 14. That committee found that the NorSor3Kor of 24 rai held by the company was illegitimate

“The committee found that the a flying SorKor 1 was used to issue the NorSor3Kor,” General Apinun said.
A flying SorKor 1 is a title deed issued for a specific plot of land, but then used to claim the right to occupy another plot of land elsewhere. The land dispute has been going on since late last year.

The dispute began in December, when the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) investigated a complaint alleging land ownership on Naka Noi by Thai actor Puri Hiranpruk

With so many different types of documents available within the land ownership system, coupled with toxic corruption at all levels......it's little wonder that so much wasted time is needed to resolve issues like this......Six Mountain Co. should be hit with all costs for causing all this nonsense when all along, they obviously knew the situation!

Land dispute resolution in Thailand 101 - A flying SorKor 1 is a title deed issued for a specific plot of land, but then used to claim the right to occupy another plot of land elsewhere.

So, it's sort of like being the general in charge of the Thai army, but then using this to land a specific plot to claim the right to occupy the government of Thailand.

In any reasonable justice system they would be charged with a crime.

Naka Noi land dispute settled

Settled? All they have done is lifted the corner of the lid on a huge can of worms, not liked the look of the contents, removed the nearest worm and rammed the lid back on.

  • No investigation of the other title deeds and land ownership claim on Naka Noi
  • No investigation of land ownership rights on other islands
  • No investigation of the Land Department officials and procedures.

Just a collective sigh of relief that we have, by and large, got away with it for a bit longer. Sorry, Six Mountains, bad luck this time, but feel free to try again in another place later. No further action for subverting the land ownership and registration process and corrupting our workforce - no hard feelings - we know how business is done in the resorts industry and can't blame you for trying.

the Thai justice system has this somewhat unique method, where the sentence is halved, if you have confess. I have to admit, it is a great way to clear the backlog (subject to not wanting ever to visit that realm!)

How about cases where the accused stall, delay, confuse and criticize the authorities (see many recent hi-so cases); why not double the penalties for wasting time?.

Would the result have been the same if there was no high profile actor involved , and instead some simple island folk ?

Sometimes it takes a high profile person- so what. Authorities only take action when they are embarrassed into it by publicity- high profile people generate publicity so it works for me.

Land has been recovered and some guys that thought hey would make a killing on it have lost millions of baht. Son Nam Na, long may it continue.

I agree it would be nice to see land dept and other officials in the dock and there are some cases ongoing but at present the outcome is predictable.

"Sometimes it takes a high profile person- so what." - why should it?

"Authorities only take action when they are embarrassed into it by publicity" - correct. Wonderful, isn't it? :)

"high profile people generate publicity so it works for me." - but it doesn't really work for law and order in the country, does it?

"I agree it would be nice to see land dept and other officials in the dock and there are some cases ongoing but at present the outcome is predictable." - ahhh, selective law enforcement.

Not all Thai's are equal under Thai law. One for the wealth and connected, and one for everyone else.
