One of the schoolgirls signs a report Monday at the Khanu Woralaksaburi Police Station in Kampheng Phet province.

KAMPHAENG PHET — When two 8-year-old girls ripped a voter registration notice from a board near their school in Kamphaeng Phet province because they wanted the pink-colored paper, local police officers must have thought it was a cute, harmless incident.

But regional police commander Chanasit Wattanarangkul thought otherwise and on Tuesday ordered the local police chief removed from his post because he didn’t file urgently report the vandalism.

The poor guy is punished for the massive loss of face incurred by the NCPO that blamed it on political opponents. ("It is believed that it was an act of those with different stances from the government's," Col Piyapong said.)cheesy.gif

Young girls removing paper to play with, poor people picking mushrooms form a national park for food? These are the serious crimes they go after here?

Murder, human trafficking.... not a problem if you are connected!!!

The regional commander should be fired instantly and let the cop he fired take his place.

common sense prevailed, albeit for a short time. Urgent memo to all Government Departments; don't print on pink paper. Problem solved.

Now, where is that Red Bull heir or have we misplaced him again; that guy is slippier than an eel coated in vaseline

So much for police discretionary power!

The "loud and clear" message to all RTP officers here is, if you fail to file a report for even the most trivial of misdemeanors you will be transferred to an inactive post and placed under disciplinary investigation.

Apparently, it would seem Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanasit Wattanarangkul considers subordinates who choose not to further tie-up an already hopeless bureaucracy with trivia are guilty of breaking protocol!

The reality is more likely that this strutting rooster was embarrassed to learn about this act of "minor" vandalism from the media instead of an internal RTP report (assuming he even reads them).

Just as well the Pattaya bar owner telephoned the police chief (rather than this control-freakin' micro manager) to report the police extortion attempt (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/932543-bar-owner-gets-extorted-by-cop-calls-police-chief-to-intervene/), he really would have laid an egg over that!

Could anyone explain to me why a welfare receiver forgetting to declare a gift of 250 euro from a friend gets a 7-day prison sentence and a lowering of his welfare with 25%, while a big time tax dodger probably owing around 2 million euro in unpaid taxes can not be brought to justice?

This is in Europe.

Just to illustrate that the rich and influential will nearly always be able to do what they want.

Everywhere in the world.

Best not to take the news at face value here. This was probably just a convenient opportunity to ditch the cop who wasn't chucking enough cash up the chain of command and replace him with somebody more trusted / compliant / corrupt / motivated / related etc......

Right. So no need to do anything then - it happens everywhere else as well.

That's a relief then, mine's a pint.

Obviously if one wants to advance in the police ranks, it is a much wiser move to not take any action when the wealthy and entitled rams his Ferrari and kills a police officer, and then drags him 200 meters along the road, than it is to do nothing when an 8 year-old takes a piece of pink paper that no one wanted in the first place.

Something seriously wrong about this.. No policeman ever loses his job - they are always transferred to an inactive posting. Regional Police Commander Chanasit should be investigated for breaking with tradition.

Spot on Winnie. Might as well shut TV down as about 93% (figures provided by Mr. P)of all threads can now be reduced to "happens everywhere", "your only Thai bashing", the ever popular "if you don't like it leave" and who could forget "but...but..but, Thaksin".
