Need advice about going from B to O-marriage visa

Featured Replies

Hey guys, hope you all had an awesome long weekend.

I hope some of you could share or help me with my case. I currently have a B working visa valid until SEPT 27 2016 and I'm going married in this November.

I asked my embassy and they told me that I need to go back to my home country first to get the marriage form all filled and translated and bring it back there (local embassy in here)

My question is, do I need to extend my B visa first, which will be changed again within less than 2 month? or should I just jump in to go for the O visa, months before my wedding day? (not really leaning to this option)

Or are there any other options for me? I'd love to hear your expertise on this, thank you!biggrin.png

I never heard of anybody having to return to their home country to get the affirmation of permit to marry needed to get married here.

You will not be able to get a non-o visa until after you get married.

Do you have a non- b visa issued by an embassy or consulate or an extension of stay based upon working obtained at an immigration office?

Getting married does not mean you have to get a new visa or change the reason for your extension of stay to one based upon marriage. You could could remain on either one until they expire.

Right? Everyone said the same thing to me. I guess my embassy not really helpful to me. I got my B visa from Thai embassy in my home country.

I understand the part that I dont need to change my visa eventho i am married but wouldnt it complicate things later down the road?

Ty!

If you have a multiple entry non-b visa you could get a new 90 day entry just before it expires (enter before date on visa). Then you could apply for an extension of stay at immigration based upon marriage during the last 30 days of that 90 day entry if you can meet the financial requirements.

You could also apply for multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage.
