DIT: Govt monitors living expense

BANGKOK, 21 July 2016, (NNT) - The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has affirmed that the government is closely regulating the cost of living in the Kingdom.

The comments were made by DIT Deputy Director-General Somsak Kiatchailak during the daily television program, "Thailand Moves Forward". According to Mr. Somsak, the prices of ready-made meals sold by street vendors and supermarkets have been deemed appropriate.

The department has not observed any unjustified price hikes in recent time. However, Mr. Somsak admitted that some vendors may offer their goods at higher prices due to external factors, such as venue leasing fees and utility expenses. He noted that utility expenses, not the cost of food supplies themselves, are the main reason behind price hikes in ready-made meals.

The DIT has also been closely monitoring the sales of household commodities, to ensure fair pricing nationwide. He urged the public to look for household goods with decent quality and reasonable prices, assuring the public that such products exist in the current market.

Do they need to be told.

Rather than worry about the cost of sticky rice they might consider what Thai people pay loan sharks. I'm sure that would be more relevant to their cost of living.
