Ex-Pheu Thai MP meets police after being implicated in distorted mails

BANGKOK: -- Former Pheu Thai MP of Chiang Mai Ms Tassanee Buranupakorn turned herself in with the police in Chiang Mai after she was implicated by a former employee of involvement in the distribution of mails with distorted version of the draft constitution seized in some northern provinces.

Ms Tassanee, currently vice president of Chiang Mai Provincial Administratiion Organisation, told the press at the 5th regional police bureau that, personally, she did’t think sending mails is wrong because the content is about the draft charter and there is nothing wrong about the content such as the one about the 30-baht universal health care, the allowance for the elderly and etc.

As a former MP, she insisted that she had the right to express her views about the draft charter.

Her office, Tassanaporn Company, was raided and searched by police and military personnel on Sunday in their attempt to look for evidences which can be linked to the allegedly distorted mails.

Ms Tassanee claimed that the evidences seized from her office were just empty envelopes. She said she volunteered to see the police just to find out the charges against her.

Her lawyer, Mr Chamnong Chaimongkol, said that no formal charges had been filed against Ms Tassanee although she was accused of violating the referendum law. He added that her client was willing to acknowledge the charges against her if there are any charges at all.

Pol Maj-Gen Thanitsak Thirasawasdi, commissioner of the 5th regional police bureau, said that the distorted mail case would proceed and he expected more arrests when the case was wrapped up.

If she was mailing incorrect information, then the mailings should be stopped and she should be charged. If the letter just had discussion points about the items, valid ones, then it should be allowed.

Knowing the PTP's reputation for truth, I dough the letter contained valid discussion points.

P.S. Truth is an elusive thing here in politics. Heck, elusive in most countries! LOL

The article makes no mention of distorting the facts ,only the sensational headline , however under Thailand's Junta trumped up laws and the Versatile section 44 anything construed as against the Junta or its intentions would be termed unlawful, the problem facing the Junta administration is trying to convince the population we are here for your own good, something akin to Dracula attending a red cross seminar , trying to hide behind laws or heavy handed tactic's to impose a draconian styled Government fools no one.......................................................coffee1.gif

'Incorrect information". Senior Thai Military really are idiots when they believe (or wish to believe) that words have only ONE correct meaning and interpretation.

But I suppose that's what you get when jobbing, not-so-bright soldiers usurp power and try to run a country by themselves.

It's hard for us to tell without actually seeing the letter, being able to read Thai, and being able to understand the issues! LOL

But, the article in the Bangkok Post does say the letters contained misleading and distorted information. On points that have been discussed by the charter drafters. Sadly, discussion of the charter draft is against the law.

Welcome to Thailand! LOL

That kind of things make me shudder by fear. Everywhere in the world free expression of thoughts are endangered from Turkey across to USA and so on

How is free speech endangered in the US? Seems to be alive and well. Just watch Fox news! tongue.png

So what counties, democracies included, send out misleading pre-election/referendum material all the time? These same democracies give some credit for their respective populations being intelligent enough to differentiate between right and wrong. Yet another example of the military junta's paranoia in wanting to get their own message across at the expense of those with a differing opinion. When in doubt, always vote no.

The Shinawatra propaganda machine would never tell lies about a charter designed to limit their power, the Thai people are far too smart to accept their lies. Look how the rejected the rice pledging policy, already a proven failure once and laughed at by the rest of the world.

"...designed to limit their power" ..... which sounds like you know full well the PTP would/will get back in power..

Were you not one of the "cheerleaders" harping on about their popularity and support and that how they were now a minority?

My my my, if that's the case, and they really are a minority, why are the Junta so paranoid, and constantly making excuses, retaining the no more than 5 people in a gathering (unless you're an ultra royalist monk, or former whistle blowing one) ?

Wasn't the Juntas popularity soaring up there at 92.8 % not so long ago?

Glad you've actually realised that the draft charter is to curb the Shins, who will win the next election by a majority, next time the Army stage a coup in 2-3 years time, they just might not get it so easy next time.

There's not a chance there will be an election next year, Suthep will simply not allow this to happen till his reforms have taken place, or else he will take to the streets again, and then what?

It's being said the letter stated the new draft charter would cancel the 30 Baht healthcare scheme, monthly payments to the elderly and also cancel free schooling.

I don't know what's in the draft charter. Does anybody know if these items are?

Of course they are! The CDC included what would be highly unpopular items to ensure the new charter would be rejected.

Either that, or Thaksin's boys and girls are spreading BS again, and how likely is that ?

Here's a translation of the draft charter.  I don't see any references to free health care for the poor being eliminated nor free education.

Seems this person may have been violating the law?
