Gen Prawit asks Thaksin to keep a low profile

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said Tuesday that he would like fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to keep a low profile and to let the National Council for Peace and Order to do its job so that the country can move forward.

General Prawit’s above remark was in response to a reporter’s question about what well wishes he has for Thaksin on the occasion of his birthday on Tuesday.

“I have never met with him. Why should I leave (a well wish) for him because I don’t know whether he will accept it or not,” said the deputy prime minister.

Asked again whether he will need any help from Thaksin, he said he merely wanted the former prime minister to keep a low profile and to let the NCPO to do its job first.

Regarding the distribution of documents deemed to be a distortion of the draft charter by certain political elements, General Prawit said authorities concerned were trying to figure out whether such practices which emerged in some northern provinces, including Chiang Mai, were inter-related.

He also warned against political assembly of more than five people in public, saying that the practice was illegal. He noted that some people had tried to beat the law by gathering in public with less than five people.

“How should we deal with this trick? The people should decide what to do about this,” said General Prawit.

So despite being elected several times (and I include his sister and the other PTP PMs in this as he has always been the de facto leader) they think he will just sit back and watch the old elite make sure it won't matter anymore which party is elected as the dinos will rule anyway?

Yeah, sure.....coffee1.gif

Didn't the Junta claim they had proof that Thaksin was behind Global warming or something similar a couple of weeks back, some claims he was responsible for some "interfering" a month or so back, and they were going to show the proof in due time, is that Thai time, or "no time like the present" time?

The Junta by constantly mentioning him, are the ones who are not letting him keep a low profile, this was the same Junta that said they'd not mention him, and beseeched the press not to keep him in the public eye, and have done all they can to erase their own history books, with regards to him ?

Ummm okay DPM, whatever you say ! coffee1.gif

A "reporter" asked what well wishes DPM had for Thaksin on his birthday.

What a stupid question from a stupid "reporter". Should be followed by some of those stupid cartoon noises. ZIP! BOING!

Don't call people stupid if you are clueless about Thai politics. The birthday wishes question was a sly way of asking about the government's position on Thaksin and the referendum. Journalists are censored. This is how they get around the censorship.

Who is the stupid one now?

As should any stupid reply from any stupid 'Minister' other than "No comment. Next?"

Now what he said can be spun as 'C'mon, help us out here. Pretty please...?'

The reporter was clearly trying to get a reaction, hardly stupid. It's what they do the world over. You must have missed that.

And the "stupid" reporter - as described by 55Jay when calling the kettle black - succeeded in his tactic:

“Why should I leave (a well wish) for him because I don’t know whether he will accept it or not,” said the deputy prime minister.

So the reporter got the old toad to appear disingenuous. Why should Prawit care if Thaksin accepts it or not? Either he wishes him well or he doesn't wish him well.

“How should we deal with this trick? The people should decide what to do about this,” said General Prawit.

"The people" who want to express themselves against his regime are described as playing a "trick" if they don't say what he thinks they should say.

He better hope the people don't decide to decide what to do about him.

Look closely at the photo, and see Thailand's future, maybe present, the non Thai looking person, has China already "invaded" Thailand, the same Thailand never colonised by another nation. Colonised by stealth.

This government with some of their crazy comments about Thaksin keep him in the limelight.

If they kept quiet about him his name would not appear as much.

Talk about brain dead.

So, reporters should only ask questions about things they don't know? The papers and news channels would be pretty empty if that were the case...blink.png

isn't that exactly what the problem is, he used his money to buy elections and also bribed the country with populous unsustainable election promises, he abused his position in so many ways they are too long to list - he broke the law and was convicted and did a runner while other charges were/are still pending and is now trying to destroy the country if he can't get his own way, scum of the highest order

10 years in jail for any public official caught taking bribes. Is that in the Charter?

It should be.

not something for the charter but I agree - the only way to stop the rot is to get serious with the offenders especially those in public office, should have been a high priority item in the junta roadmap and also enforcement of law equal for all.....no exceptions

this is a referendum not an election, why shouild politicians have a more say than anyone else, they have been told to remain inactive until such times as they are required - they had decades to impliment reforms while in office and failed to do so - they are a very large part of the problem

Thaksin already keeping a low profile. He is smart to know what's at stake. When the time is right, he will raise his profile.

what's at stake ? he still hasn't got the message that the only way he will be back in Thailand is from the airport to a jail cell

"isn't that exactly what the problem is.." Sorry, what is that?

"...he used his money to buy elections and also bribed the country with populous unsustainable election promises.."

Again the tired old "he bought the election" BS. How many times do you have to be reminded of the fact that the international community deemed the elections fair. And how many times do you have to be reminded of the fact that all Western governments, newspapers, TV stations, NGOs etc, etc, disagree with your junta support?? Did you see this article?

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/934468-thai-government-snubs-at-un-rapporteurs-statement/ You did but you ignored it?

"scum of the highest order"

No doubt he's a sleaze ball but that is a description he shares with a large number of other individuals - some of which are running the country today. In other words; he is not unique.
