I have a friend who will soon need to obtain an extension for her Non-Immigrant ED visa. Her first 90-Day 'permission to stay' will soon finish.

Two questions:

Does anyone have any current information about queue wait times for ED visa concerns at Immigration?

And, can anyone confirm which Immigration office handles ED visas now? I think Promenada, but need to confirm.

Thanks for any help.

Ed visa extension is handled by airport immigration, not Promenada. I too, am curious about the queue wait now.

My last 90 day ED extension was about 3 weeks ago, I arrived just after 9am, got a number and was told to come back at 1:30, got back closer to 2, was called up at 2:10 and was finished by 2:30. Immigration was the quietest I've ever seen it (note as above Airport does it) I'm guessing low season is part of it.

Time before same time to get the number, told to come back, finished just after 3.

You will wait longer if you try to get it in the morning which is why I always go an get the number after the initial mad rush then come back.

Lordblackader: A couple more questions, if you don't mind, especially considering your recent experience.

For the ED extension renewal I understand that the documents/items needed are to be same as those when initially getting the visa. I see them listed on the donslifeinthailand.com website, and others. Is that currently correct... is that what you used for your extension?

Second, about the financial requirement: --- the donslifeinthailand website states the financial requirement to be a bank statement showing at least 500 USD on deposit in Thailand. Yet, the Pattaya City Expats Club's website (which has an excellent section concerning visas and other items) states the financial requirement to be 500,000 Baht on deposit in a Thai bank for at least the previous 3 months (in the case of the Extension application). Quite a bit of difference! What is your understanding of the financial requirement?

Many thanks!

You can't get an ED visa extension without the appropriate paperwork from your school (it's required at every extension) and even if you've done no formal testing that paper work includes competency and even how many hours you have studied. The only form you fill in is the 90 day extension form which is available at immigration or online (I think Donslife has it for memory). Note you'll also need photocopies from your passport + photo if your school doesn't do this for you.

There's no financial requirement for an ED visa or extension, I've tried Googling those sites and couldn't find what you are referring to and can only guess that it refers to a different type of visa (Marriage/ Retirement etc). I've done two 90 day renewals now, the only thing they care about is the 1900 fee and the paperwork being in order. They didn't even test me on my Thai last time despite the fact I was expecting them to :)

Understand about the paperwork. All is in order.

And no financial documentation --- nice to know!

Many thanks, again!

Reached airport immigration today at 8:40am but was rejected because they had given out all the queue numbers for the day. I was told they only accept 40 applicants each day for student visa.

I guess today's not my lucky day!

Thanks for this timely information.  Much appreciated.  Hope your next attempt moves along a bit more smoothly.
