stoli
You can only get an IDP, (International Drivers Permit), from the country that you reside in. This is accepted as the country is which you already have a Driver's License. If you don't have a Thai license, they are not going to legally give you a license to drive in the rest of the world. An IDP is not valid in the country that you receive it from, so having one from Thailand would not allow you to drive here. However, you can receive a Driver's License here with a non-imm visa, but it takes a while, and testing. Hope this helps.

My understanding was also that you needed to have the 5 year (Full) licence to get a Thai IDP and normally you cannot get that without a long term visa. It is possible to get a 2 year provisional on a visa waiver stamp in many DLTs but you still would not get a Thai IDP.
bazza40
A Thai IDP?? I suppose if you get one, it's a testament to your survival skills.
blackcab
You have to have a 5 year Thai driving license to be eligible to apply for a Thai IDP. Currently that would mean obtaining and using a 2 year Thai provisional license first. Even if you had all the correct documents it's a 2 year wait. You can convert your 2 year temporary Thai DL over to a 5 year Thai dl after one year . You do not have to wait the full 2 years.
