Hi

I am due to marry my Thai fiancee in 3 weeks in the UK on a Fiancee visa. What are the steps We would take once we are married. How difficult is it to apply for the new Spouse Visa? And what types of documents will I need and how long will it take.

Also after we are married are there are any European countries (greece, spain etc) we can go on a Honeymoon? Or do we need a Schengen Visa? Or could we apply for the spouse Visa and then once we have that could we the travel on a honeymoon with a Schengen Visa?

Thanks for the help

I'm not sure what you mean by "the new Spouse Visa", there is no new Spouse Visa.

I suspect that your wife wants to settle in the UK after entering on a Marriage Visa, in which case she will need to apply for Further Leave to Remain, FLR, this link contains the application form and the guidance notes Application to extend stay in the UK as a partner and outlines details of the documents required.

She will need to pay the application fee, I think it's £811 if the application is made by post, more if the application is made in person and pay the NHS surcharge. You will have to provide evidence that you meet the Financial Requirements of £18,600 and she will need to provide proof of her English Language Skills together with the TB test results. She will need to go through this process again after 30 months and 30 months later can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain.

As Beano has pointed out she will need to apply for a Schengen Visa if you want to honeymoon in Europe.

Ok cheers for the info.

So I will need to provide my last 6 months worth of payslips with the application then i presume? Also my fiancee has her ILETS A1 English test and TB results from the original application for the Fiancee visa so she will need to show these again?

I am thinking about going on the day to get the visa sorted as it will pay for itself as instead of waiting around for 3 months for it in Post she will be able to work and help pay some bills haha.

Regarding the Schengen Visa I will apply for this once we are married and have the further leave to remain visa as I believe it is a lot easier to get a Schengen Visa this way and it is free? can you confirm this?

Thanks agin,

Terry

So the health surcharge we will have to pay for the FLR visa would be £500 for the first 30 months or would it be the whole £1000?

Also does anyone have any idea it takes by post and would they recommend this or just going to do it on the day?

Thanks

It works out at £200 a year.

It takes a few weeks by post. I can’t remember how long but getting it the same day, assuming all you paperwork is in order is £600 extra.

Not for us. Don't need the passports back quickly and have no intention of leaving the UK for a while so we are happy to wait.

Just the first £500, the second instalment is due 30 months down the line at the next FLR stage.

Thanks again for help.

In two minds what to do now as £600 is abit steap on top of the price for the visa anyway. But we are hoping to go away somewhere for my missus bday in October after got visa and shengzan visa sorted so not too sure what to do.

Also as we are getting married on 20th August and the fiancee visa is valid until 5th September is it worth starting the visa process now to make sure it is done in time?

Thanks

We are honeymooning in Jersey in the middle of August. No visa required.

100% yes to that. Unless your paperwork is very simple it's hard to get it done in two weeks. Have you checked the requirements for FLR? You need letters coming to your address to prove you have been living together for a while, just for a start.

Unfortunately I didn't start this until a few days ago and have just come to the end of the application where the checklist is. We have a big problem regrading the correspondence to prove we have been living together. We do not have any joint letters addressed to this house and my Wife hasn't actually had any letters sent here at all.

It says that you can of stayed with a relative. So I am thinking of changing the address to say we have lived with my parents the whole time she has been in the UK and to get a letter off them to confirm this. Do you think this will work? And also what would I need for this letter to say and would I need to provide evidence of it being my parents address, e.g council tax bills in parents name?

I Know it is a long question but would very much appreciate any help from anyone who has done the FLR(M) process before.

Thanks
