6 Weeks that is fantastic? Bet you wont be able to quote that figure to the DIMA Staff in BKK and get it acknowledged.

3-4 months seems to be the norm, with 3 month period being around the mean average. This is just my anacdotal observation. The main thing is to have the application done properly. The other way is to be very Thai with the DIMA girls; bit of a power trip. Again this is an anacdotal observation.

I spent a few hours in the waiting room and spoke to about 4 women who were doing the application with their partners in Oz. The mean waiting time was about 6 months. Issan ladies I think. Maybe class struggle or maybe personal struggle, but don't really know why they were waiting so long. I do know that the women I spoke to waiting were also not impressed with the service.

Have a look at the Ombudsmans report for the last financial year. DIMA has a very bad report. This is factual!

I did have names of Oz people at the embassy; the only way I got them was having a bad experience and writting to their boses here in OZ. Not a pleasant way I can assure you.

Yeah, it is about waiting, once the application goes in; but it does piss me off when I hear people getting approval in 6 weeks. When I first spoke to the embassy (DIMA) in Bangkok, I was told straight out go to an immigration service? Don't know which one they were going to recomend as the refusal to even talk was offensive.

Read some of the threads from the Poms. They are a bit more radical in their approach, which is a more proactive way of dealing with things. also they appear a bit lighter in response but straight to the point.

I might sound a bit over the top, only because I don't feel I got a lot of value for the $1250.00 application monies. But somtimes you have to go out a fair bit, so when you come back to reality, you know that you aren't dealing with a realastic system.

Good luck :o

Chris...

That is from info received from members here....it seems the issuing of 12 month multi entry visas for some tourists has lessened the workload at the Embassy.

If you look at the process that a spouse visa application goes through, it could be assumed that any delay in making a final decision is caused by the heads of the Embassy.

The case officer sights the application, conducts the interview, satisfies herself that all the required papers are on hand and recommends a decision.

I'm suggesting that this process would take no longer than one week following the interview.

A final decision is made by the case officer's superiors.

Previously, and perhaps nowadays too, the medical report for the applicant, had to be sent back to Australia for verification and acceptance. This is, or was, because there are no medical practitioners on hand at the Bangkok Embassy. It was sent through the official mail bag and delays could be expected.

With some applicants now reporting that they are being notified of a final decision within six weeks, it seems that there has been a shake up in procedure.

We know that some of the previous heads of the department are no longer in Bangkok and have been replaced by (perhaps) more efficient personnel.

The issue of multiple entry visas may have had some positive effect on the work load, but I tend to think that there was a radical change to the overall system which has resulted in shorter waiting times.

Whatever the reason, we should all now be happy with the results. :o
