I am flying back to Australia the same day my Extension of Stay (Retirement) expires late September.

I have been to the Embassy for the documentation proof of income last week.

Is there any problem of doing my Extension early? Like Mid August so that all documents are still valid.

As far as Chiang Mai immigration is concerned, a renewal can be done up to 45 days before expiry.

You can apply for your extension up to 30 days early or 45 days at some offices.

Be sure you get a new re-entry permit when you apply for the extension.

Your proof of income will be accepted by immigration for 6 months from the date it is done.

Thanks for the replies. I intend to get a Multi Entry as I have at least 2 visits planned within 7 months.
