Car owners accused car company of over advertising

BANGKOK: -- About 100 owners of Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus cars yesterday formally asked the Consumer Protection Division police to charge the car company for over advertising its cars after they said their cars have same power transmission problem that could not be definitely solved.

Led the large group of car owners to see the CPD police was Mr Achariya Rueng-Rattanapong.

As the chairman of the Help Crime Victims Club, he first led a group of injured parties to file complaints with the Office of the Consumer Protection Board after more than 100 vehicles were purchased from the car company and found to have similar defective problems.

They charged the car company for misleading or untruthful advertising with evidences of advertising brochures from the manufacturer that claim that its gearbox was smooth, reliable and trouble-free.

This was apparently not so as the injured parties found that in use, the transmission was jerky especially when driven on inclines.

Many owners stated that they had to take their vehicles in to the manufacturer’s service centres on six occasions but no cure has been found.

After receiving complaints from car owners, Pol Maj Gen Prasert Pattanadee, the commander of the Consumer Protection Police Division, said he was preparing to question each and every injured party on an individual basis as many of the facts did not correlate with one another.

After that he would call on representatives from the carmaker in question to answer for these claims.

Also, he stated that an official determination of the maker’s industrial standards will be made to discover any flaws in their production process.

For this, he explained, experts and specialists involved in production methods will have to be called in.

If it is discovered that the manufacturer’s products had deficiencies or defects then the Office of the Consumer Protection Board had the power to force the maker to recall their products or worse ban them from selling the model in question, he added.

There's a class action against ford in Australia for the same thing. A news story the other day was about a driver who was pulled over by the police just as they arrived home because the police thought they were drunk.

The driver was then threatened with a notice of not being in control of the vehicle once the police discovered it was the cars gearbox and not alcohol causing the unusual movement.

Lucky guys with the current taking them towards a safer place.

Was there no boat name for them to see as it hit them? Perhaps on the stern after it passed. All the fishing boats I saw around Hua Hin for example were lit up like Christmas trees.

it is so apparent that the captain of the boat was not attentive and hence doing his job. If he were he would have spotted a bigger boat coming towards their craft. Looks like there was little or no safety equipment on board the tourist boat. Life jackets could have provided some support.

I think your last comment is the real problem.  With no consequences, motorists have no incentive to obey the laws.

The police stopped me one night coming home from the pub.

The copper said to me, "Excuse me sir, but you are completely drunk!".

I said "thank goodness for that, I thought my steering had gone".

From one of the many Australian news stories about the problem. http://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/motoring/thousands-of-aussie-ford-owners-could-take-part-in-class-action-over-defective-automatic-gearboxes/news-story/9e7528ddbf9bffcdc6fd46b32161d389

MORE than 60,000 Ford cars in Australia may be the subject of a new class action because of a transmission that lawyers claim is “unsafe to drive”.

Ford’s twin-clutch automatic — a similar design to those used in Volkswagens — is fitted to its Fiesta hatchback, Focus small car and Ecosport SUV.

According to Bannister Law, which is proposing the class action, the transmission is “defective” because it “slips, bucks, jerks, and harshly engages when driven”.

The proposed action only includes Fiesta, Focus and Ecosport models made from 2011 to 2014, even though two of the three cars on sale today continue with the same transmission.

I'm American and in the USA FORD stands for "FOUND ON ROAD DEAD"

This is the reason I have not had a FORD product in over 40 years.

Just a side note

FIAT stands for "FIX IT AGAIN TONY"

I'm still trying to figure out what GM stands for
