snoop1130 Posted August 5, 2016 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Alcohol banned for referendum election Sukawin Tanthavanich PHUKET:-- The Phuket Election Commission (PEC) confirmed today that the sale of alcohol is prohibited throughout Thailand August 6-7, as the country goes to the polls to vote on the National Referendum. “The alcohol ban is from 6pm on August 6, ahead of voting the next day, until midnight on the 7th. It is applicable to all retail shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and convenience stores,” said PEC Director Kittipong Thiengkunakrit. Anyone caught in violation of the ban faces a fine of up to 10,000 baht, six months imprisonment, or both. Probably because the vast majority of Thais have Sunday off I would have thought, a bit like back home, so more people can get to the voting stations. The 3 Chinese Doctors i chatted with on holidays here don't drink alcohol but like to go out dancing.the Muslim family staying in the building for 2 weeks...I'm guessing it doesn't register for them.Friends from my home country last month...here to relax..not drink...see the tourist sites.it wpuld have no affect Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are plenty of people out there who don't base decisions about holidays, enjoyment of life, relaxation, fun, socialising around alcohol.Why would they need to be drinking to be fun and good company? Sunday is total closure, unless you know where to go. No alcohol starting at 6pm on the sixth....so not quite normal, as many watering holes do not open until the afternoon. Even worse on the 7th...as no alcohol before midnight. Most places are closed by that time. A few good ones open.
