Sad for their families; however little sympathy for

these recers going like hell with no regard for

other people or their safety...

Where does it say they were racing? But they were obviously riding too fast in wet conditions, just as bad as racing.

Some people accept responsibility for their stupid actions and behavior, and if they live long enough learn from their mistakes

Some people learn after witnessing the results of other peoples stupidity

Some people never learn as in this case

Sorry, but it might be the shitty scooters with two handbrakes that makes it really difficult for inexperienced drivers to stop.

And accidents happen all around the world. When riding a bike there're so many unknowns that you can hardly blame Thais in general.

  • Road Safety is a major societal issue. In 2011, more than 30,000 people died on the roads of the European Union, i.e. the equivalent of a medium town.

Here's an example of a strange motorcycle accident in Europe:

They is no excuse for speeding in wet road conditions, and they were speeding according to witnesses.

Correct poor kit no doubt

Correct accidents happen all over the world

Correct you cant blame  all Thais for all the things that can happen while on the road

Dont be in any doubt though about the large contribution many Thais make to their own demise

After those first three observations you lost the plot old cock

Are you not aware of the size of the EU soon not to be quite so big apparently

Not all of these countries are equal which goes some way to explaine the high death figure

Just try to imagine what the toll would be in Thailand if the population was even half that of the EU

The smoke would be going up the chimneys 24 / 7

I prefer not to dwell on that

No sympathy from me for the guilty in any shape or form only for the slaughter of the innocents

I agree with what you say

but spare a thought for the guilty children that die.

the real guilt lays at the feet of there R-Sole parents.

they teach them nothing about how to behave on the roads. :wai2:

very sad.

I see your point and acknowledge the validity of it

I admit I did not see that in my blanket condemnation

They had no chance and I thank you for pulling me up

I fail to see how 2 handbrakes make it difficult to stop? Surely 2 handbrakes would be exactly the same as on a bicycle, something everyone learns to ride on - and therefore be easier for an inexperienced rider to use?

Handbrakes/foot brake  lever or mixture of both is not the root cause. Riding within the given road conditions and having some level of competence is a start and sadly that is what seems to be missing a lot of times in LOS

The problem with two handbrakes is that scooters usually have a disc brake in front and "only brake shoes" in the back.

In more "civilized  countries," people have to learn how to drive such a bike and you wouldn't see kids on a 125 cc scooter.

How many people know which one's the front and which one's the rear brake? Then take a rainy day and hit the front brake too hard.

Murphy's laws will kick you off and I'm pretty sure that this happens quite often in Thailand.

The brakes of a "real" motorcycle with a foot brake" are much easier to handle.

"

Motorists with a full car driving licence may ride a motorcycle (up to 125cc) without passing a test or obtaining a special licence. US motorcycle tests are mostly superficial and in most states there’s no restriction on the size of bike a rider can ride after passing his test. No test is necessary for moped riders."

According to your logic, the USA is less civilized than Thailand.

Scooters with 1 hand and 1 foot brake still normally have a disc on the front and drum on the back - so your argument is invalid.

And what about all the older scooters with 2 sets of drum brakes, both front and back?
