900 MHZ Wherefor Art Thou

Featured Replies

When I left Thailand in April 2016 AIS was running constant advertisements regarding its 900MHZ frequency for mobile phones. Upon returning last week it appears as though none of the mobile phone companies have introduced this frequency . Can someone give me an update on if and when AIS,DTAC or True Move plan to initiate service on the 900MHZ band?

? Introduced ?

It exists since the very beginning of cell phone in Thailand and never switched off.

AIS has won the auction lately (after another company could not pay their bidding price).

As far as I know it's mainly used to provide good old 2G service (for those with the antique cell phone models).

Not sure about the other providers, but DTAC will never offer 900 MHz.

BTW: a local forum is not the best place to get feedback on such a question.

There was an 900 MHz/4G auction. TrueMove H got 10 Mhz of the 900 MHz spectrum, and JAS got 10 MHz of the 900 MHz spectrum. JAS defaulted, AIS ultimately got that JAS piece.

Both are rolling out 4G with VoLTE in rural areas. Not sure how these rollouts are going?

You'd need a LTE/Band 8 capable phone.

I do not believe there is any remaining 900 MHz/2G in operation; both slices are being used for LTE.

DTAC still has 1800 MHz for (some) 2G, until Sep. 2018.
