By Anirban Ray

Bangkok - With more halal hotels and restaurants and mosques, Thailand expects a 20 per cent growth in tourists from Oman.

Suvat Chirapant, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Thailand has always been open to Arab tourists and of late we have seen a great increase in their numbers. We provide the best services for our friends from the GCC countries and have shared a great bond over the centuries.”

“Until now, we have seen around 38,000 Omanis visiting Thailand in 2016. Previously, we had a lean season during the monsoon but in recent years there has been a steady increase.” She added that 29mn tourists visited Thailand in 2015 and the first half of 2016 witnessed about 30mn from around the world. Predominantly, a Buddhist country, Thailand has about nine per cent of Muslims. They are not termed as ‘minority’.

Ladyboys, start shaving! :D

Courting muslims? Advertise in Syria and Iraq.

I expect to be 20% more hansum.  Great thing about expecting is that you don't really have to do anything.

This is just a typos, correct?

Is it that 30mn are anticipated in 2016 based on the number of tourists in the first half of 2016?

Oh here we go again....amazing to see so many empty rooms with the massive amount of increases

I think they confuse tourist numbers with fiddlesticks!

20% of 38k is bugger all in the grand scheme of total arrivals.

Not headline worthy.

Ah but, these extra 7,800 will be "quality" tourists, no doubt spending trillions of Baht per day (each).

ClutchClark

For the six-month period Jan-Jun 2016, Thailand had 16.6 million visitors (TAT data - http://www.tourism.go.th/home/listcontent/11/221/276)

As for Middle Eastern countries, TAT report:

Based on these figures, unless the Omanis are the exception, the 20% growth is probably also a "typo"!

These TAT numbers just keep on going up n up , as pointed out by ClutchClark , 30Mn so far this year up on 20 Mn last year , Greece attracted 20 Mn a year and that's with a bad recession,  so what's all the fuss about, next year will be 67Mn, but never a bad year always good years,  with the Junta in charge make lots of happiness , This list just gets worse , Oman Yuk................................................

Would they be termed instead as "subjugated muslims"?
