It is important to find out what caused the seizure. This is not a normal occurrence no matter how sleep deprived you were.

See a neurologist at KKU. Get copies of all your records first including the scan films.

thanks sheryl sorry a bit late replying but its hit me for six.i have never had a seizure before.the last time i had a mini stroke,i had a full brain scan, ecg, full blood tests, and they just done the same again and found nothing.

very worrying as i dont remember anything, other than in the ambulance.

It is normal with a seizure to not remember the event as well as sometimes the period just before and after it. But the seizure itself needs to be explained.

I suggets you try to see this doctor specializing in epileptic seizures at KKU Hospital through their after hours clinic:

Dr. Somsak Tiamkao

P.S. Additional tests you may need include:

EEG

carotid doppler

if these are negative and if no neurologic cause can be found, 24 hour heart monitoring and/or stress test - possible you had an abnormal heart rate which caused a temporary loss of oxygen to the brain which then triggered the symptoms.

thanks once again, what does ring a bell is,abnormal heart rate, also the ambulance men did give me oxygen.

when i did go back to bed it did seem i was very mixed up for a short while,as my records are in theperat and maharat hospitals in korat i shall go the day clinic there.i expect after the first visit the doctor will have a private clinic in the evenings which will be more private.

A  small private clinic will not have the capacities needed, especially given that you will need further diagnostic tests.  To make matters worse, in my experience Thai doctors with their own private clinics are not very good about telling patients when they need tests/treatments the clinic can't provide.  In your case you definitely need diagnostic tests that no private clinic can do, as well as  consultation with different types of specialists (neuro, cardiac etc).

If it were me I would head straight to Khon Kaen Univ Hosp as this is serious enough to warrant a top specialist. However, if you are unwilling/unable to do that, Maharat is the second best choice in Issan area and there is a  good chance that it has an after hours clinic, you should ask.

The being confused afterwards is part and parcel of having had a seizure, and giving oxygen is standard protocol for someone having seizure...but again, the issue is why the seizure. This does not occur for the first time in someone your age without a reason, and the potential reasons are both serious and likely to cause repeat episodes if not something worse.

Basically a seizure is due to abnormal nerve firing within the brain. That in turn can be due to:

-- brain abnormalities: less likely given negative brain scan but you should still see a good neurologist to be sure and additional studies may be indicated. Some types of lesions may be missed on CT especially if they are small in size. An EEG (tracing of brain activity) would tell whether there is an abnormal nerve activity now and , if there is, suggest  which parts of the brain it is arising in which in turn could guide further imaging studies.

- adverse reaction to medication   - I don't know what medications you are on?

- exposure to neurotoxic substances  (pesticides etc - but would need to be a heavy exposure so unlikely)

-metabolic abnormalities - unlikely if all your blood work right after the seizure was OK

-reduced blood flow to the brain: this in turn can be due to several things such as narrowing of the arteries leading to or inside the brain, or an abnormal heart rhythm (which in turn may be due to underlying cardiac disease). The latter can be extremely dangerous.

You need to see a really good neurologist and also a cardiologist  if you already have a cardiologist, go back to him and explain that you had a seizure episode for which no cause has yet been found.

thank you sheryl for help.

first my medication which i have to take for life, after my aota valve replacement sept.2007,and by-pass surgery.

AMLOPINE X5MG  [morning]

BISOPROLOL FUMERATE X5MG [morning]

COVERSYL ARGININE X5MG [morning]

MIRACID OMEPRAZOLE X 20MG [ 1x morning & afternoon]

WARFARIN over 7days, 2MG, 2MG, 2MG, 1MG, 2MG, 2MG, 2MG, taken between 3pm-4pm.

BESTATIN X 20MG [evening]

the doctor at maharat did say that medication to help prevent a seizure he couldnt give me as it could effect my warfarin.

it looks like i need to take stock of my activity, slow down,no drinking and stop thinking i am still 21 not 71.

While it might indeed be wise to slow down, and certainly to stop drinking, these are not what will have caused your seizure.

From the meds you are on as well as your cardiac history, should explore whether there is any narrowing or occlusion of carotid arteries or arteries in the brain and also whether you are having irregularities of the heartbeat
