BANGKOK: -- Suspects who are held in detention during the enquiry process on charges which are eventually dropped by the prosecutor will be entitled to compensation from the state of an average of 500 baht a day for the duration of the detention under a recent announcement of the Justice Ministry, Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya disclosed on Tuesday.

Similarly, suspects who have been detained during the court trial and eventually given a jailterm which is shorter than the detention period will also be compensated for the extra days they have actually been detained.

In case of injury sustained during the detention, they will be entitled to medical fees not exceeding 30,000 baht.

Suspects can be held in detention of a maximum of 48 days in four detention periods of 12 days each.

Meanwhile, Justice Ministry spokesman Thawatchai Thaikhieu said the government had set aside 200 million baht next fiscal year for the Justice Fund through which compensation will be paid to suspects wrongfully detained.

So, knowingly, they already set aside  a budget to compensate detainees that WILL BE

DONE WRONG IN THE FUTURE, and infect, admitting that they do keep people detained

beyond what the law allowed..... and the minister had to publicize that fact, well done minister....

A bit of face saving by the useless regime, pay off their victims to smile and keep quite.  The peasants are making more money staying with us and actually want to stay on.  That should keep international human rights groups happy, they have been bought.

15,000 baht per month.......a good career move for the innocent.

Medical fees not exceeding 30,000 baht. Pfft, Demonstrates Thailands dark age.

All medical expenses incurred should be compensated for due to unlawful detention. Psychological harm. hmmmmmm. for the wrong person that could get expensive on the flip side it would aid in innocent citizens not being found guilty to alleviate potential costs.

Justice dept?

They bust up your leg...but your found to not be guilty after being tortured and kept like a dog for a month or two .....( Providing you don't tell the media on social media ) You might get back 10k and a free walking stick.

The USA should be bombing these guys ...

This regime requires immediate removal

฿200 million already set aside for next year!

Could they be planning a purge of "Ill-intentioned" and "dissenting" persons in 2017?

i wonder why he dropped the case i thought it was water tight :cheesy::cheesy:

Well, 500 Baht a day! It sure beats the minimum wage! I can see hundreds queueing: Wrong detention, this way please!

And maybe the Red Bull heir will finally surrender himself, and when charges will be dropped (he's innocent, ain't he?) he'll be even richer!!!:cheesy:

well the powers that be have complete control and say what is right or wrong. its their game, they can offer compensation like this but they themselves judge when to pay it out. doubt much money will go to those who deserve it.

Deplorable. However, slightly better than previous campaigns:

In February 2003, the Thai government, under then Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, launched a 'war on drugs', purportedly aimed at the suppression of drug trafficking and the prevention of drug use. In fact, a major outcome of this policy was arbitrary killings. In the first three months of the campaign there were some 2800 extrajudicial killings. In 2007, an official investigation found that more than half of those killed had no connection whatsoever to drugs.

Actually, as one poster pointed out, at 15,000 per month, yes, a potential incentive to some to 'volunteer' as a suspect.

But they have to return all of the "electricity", "water" and "rubber" that was consumed during the interrogation process.

Sorry, genitals cannot be replaced, and fingernails may grow back.

Can also provide on-going medical treatment for cases of blood-poisoning.
