BIHAR: -- Monsoon rains have come down hard over large parts of central and northern India.

Many homes were submerged in flood water after rivers continued to flow about the danger level.

In eastern Bihar state, people were seen wading through knee-deep water. Houses along the river banks were completely submerged.

“We are facing a lot of problems, everything has been submerged in river. There is no arrangement of food, drinking water or boats. We don’t know what to do,” said one resident in Patna city.

There were similar scenes in Mirzapur district of northern Uttar Pradesh state where people living in low lying areas were fleeing to safer ground.

“Water has been gushing in the area for the last three days. All the land has been inundated with flood water. All the crops have been damaged. Water has started entering our houses,” said a villager, Shyam.

In central Madhya Pradesh state too, River Kshipra remained in spate, inundating many areas in Ujjain district.

Excessive monsoon rains in India regularly cause floods which often spread water-borne diseases.

Local organisers struggle to cope with the challenges they’re faced with.
