So I'm in my late 40s and have been feeling under-the-weather and lethargic for months; unable to work, my quality of life has taken a nosedive. Despite upping my exercise routine, various trips to hospital and tests by my local clinic here in Thailand reveal that I have low testosterone.

My blood tests suggest everything else is normal including PSA which show that my prostate is OK. My doctor has advised me to return next month when he will test my blood again after which time I am to exercise as much as I can whilst eating a protein-rich diet.

He said that if I was elderly, he would have no reservations about prescribing testosterone but he said that at my age, there are some risks involved including the obvious physical side effects and potentially being in the group of patients who need to take it for the rest of their lives. The potential cost is also a factor for me.

Personally, I sense that this month in the gym will make little impact on my already low testosterone level. I'm so tired that I will have to push myself hard to make it there the three-times-a-week I have been doing.

Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

Have you eliminated clinical depression as a factor in your lethargy and lack of energy?  Just tossing this in as a consideration.

That's a very good point. Up until recently, I had been on a very low dose of anti-depression medication for the last few years but the lethargy is the same upon stopping it.

Ideally, I'd like to boost my energy and testosterone without going down the route of TT. The doctor says exercise and protein and yes, I like going to the gym regularly but I'm still hideously tired.

 3.40 ng/mL and I'm told that the range is 2.80 - 8.00

Okay that makes more sense (I'm used to seeing it reported in dL).

You are actually in normal range then - but might want to have another test specific to "free" (unbound) testosterone as that will give a better picture

Thank you Sheryl. Will that mean that potentially I could still need testosterone therapy?

Haha I already have the ear hair, it's the testicles I'm potentially more concerned about..

Possibly. See what the free T is. If that is low, then a trial of replacement T might be indicated

Does not have to involve injections, there is a gel form ( Androgel)

But only if the free T is low. If it like the total T is within normal range, need to look elsewhere for cause & solutions with depression being a likely one.

nothing at all, 2ml every 3 weeks is nothing. It is when you use it as steroid and injecting every second day when testis shrink. ie it doubles if not triples the testo levels

Thank you for taking the time to respond Sheryl, I appreciate it. My Thai doc was suggesting that it may be very difficult to stop treatment once it has started. I have to say, depression is a slim possibility.

OK thanks for that, that's really useful - I appreciate you sharing your experience. The doc was saying they'd possibly shrink due to the body sensing that it no longer needed to produce testosterone. If I end up having to start off on a low dose, then that might be something I'd go for if the next blood test confirms it.

I'm not a doctor but it's heartening to read that your doctor isn't pushing testosterone therapy on you, he/she is doing the right thing, suggesting a second test before dicussing anything further. I suggest you wait before asking around for cost and options, it isn't advisable to use this TT to treat normal aging. Your first test was 340 ng/dL, well within normal, easily improved without TT.

Depression meds will suk the life out of you. OR make you totally relaxed so you don't care same thing but libido will take a big dive for sure and make you lethargic

Might be the case for someone under 21 year old, or may be even 30

Most certainly not in late 40's

He/she the doctor may have financial benefits in mind, by keeping OP coming for more tests and more consulations.

Test in small dosage over a certain time frame is hardly harmful and has little to none side affects at all

I just made testosterone tests in one of these small labs in Pattaya. I got 3 kind of different results testosterone, free testosterone ja bioavailable testosterone. Testreports are reported as ng/ dl and there are reference range for people over and below 50 years. It seems that small labs can not test everything because my testreport says it was made at Bangkok Pattaya hospital Lab.

Are you fat and out of shape? I think in the 40's is too young for T replacement. But if you want you can buy T at many pharmacies over the counter.  I pay about 6 US dollars and give myself a shot every 2 weeks.  There is a cost problem with you of $12 a month??

Not sure there's a "too young for T replacement."  Our bodies are each unique and not the same.  When I was in my early 40's, after a routine physical (in the U.S.) my doctor told me I had the testosterone level of a healthy 72-year old.  So, it was not "too young" for me in my early 40's.

That said, the attempt to supplement my testosterone levels and that time, and a couple more times in my 50's, were unsuccessful.  The earliest attempt involved using a testosterone gel, and the two latest times were with Nebido injections.  None of the courses were effective in raising my testosterone levels, so I've given up.

I wouldn't give up. Try the Andriol capsules. And take the correct dosage. For a month. The delivery system is different. Might be worth a try.

This is small dosage

My friend doing gym and big muscles takes shoot every 3 days and every few days nandrolone thats testosterone too.

Only horny and thats all.

Shoot every 3 weeks no side effects at all. Testosterone is well tolerated by body.

I'm not overweight and am in pretty good shape. That kind of monthly outlay is not an issue but in the meantime, I want to do everything I can to increase testosterone naturally.
