Stolen hospital ambulance used in car bomb attack at hotel in Pattani

PATTANI: -- The Internal Security Operations  Forward Command in the South said before noon today that a stolen hospital ambulance was used by southern militants in the car bomb attack at the Southern View Pattani Hotel last night.

The command spokesman said investigation of the bomb attack at the hotel revealed that the ambulance of the Songserm Sukaparb hospital in Tambon Pakaharang local administration was parked in front of the driver’s house when it was stolen last night.

He said such theft of ambulace for terrorism attack was totally unacceptable as hospital ambulance is a vehicle that transports sick and injured people to hospital and is the sign of humanity aids.

But this time it was stolen by the militants as tool to carry out bomb attack that caused deaths and injuries of so many innocent people, he said.

The bomb attacks caused have damages to the hotel and adjacent shop buildings and vehicles.

Security officials were checking CCTVs in the areas to hunt down the escaping militants.

Car/ambulance bomb... hotel... this sets a dangerous precedent and a worrying escalation from the norm in the deep South of using bombs implanted on motorcycles and targeting soldiers etc.   Meanwhile the as yet unsolved Hua Hin/Phuket etc bombs on Aug 12 are likely never to be solved, yet many absolutely pin it on 'Southern insurgents' (despite suspicion someone hired Southern elements and used Malaysian phones to further cover-up). Also, the Erawan bomb case looks like yet another complete cover-up job.

This is all very worrying because 'if' there is indeed a different mastermind (than Southern groups) behind the 'Mothers day' Hua Hin/Phuket etc (Samui) bombs, they can now escalate to using car bombs in other locations and with impunity as most would 'simply' pin the blame on Southern insurgents. With this precedent now set and with some running out of time and becoming more desperate, one greatly worries escalated and larger scale attacks may be ahead and in locations other than the deep South.

The bombings and fights between Muslims and Thais have gone on for years and to expect a stop is not realistic, the same for southern Philippines you still have bombings and kidnappings there even with us military presence. Tourist just have to stay away from those areas. The sad things is that wherever you are in the world including the US you have to keep out of the crowds and make sure you are aware of your surroundings. These radical Islamist have been around for decades and will not disappear, they just get more fuel from people like president to be Donald Trump.

Yes - keep out of crowds and wear a tin foil hat!

Don't think because its further south it's going to stay there.

Hotels are indicative of getting tourists .

Didn't take long this will now bite hard into their tourism industry .

The Government had assured you all was normal ...it is not.
They can't protect you.

Civil strife in Thailand is now under way.

I can only urge people travelling there to continue monitoring embassy and westerner media information.
Thailand appears to be entering a politically charged situation with backlash against its oppressive military junta increasingly likely.

Violence and bombings place tourists at risk.

This seems now a very clear indication a bombing campaign has begun .

hope things are not as bad as described by Plutojanes88

The use of hospitals, ambulances, schools, etc as a means of terror is a typical for muslims, anywhere in the world.

I guess, the "advisors" from Iran and it's affiliates have arrived.

Just like in Philippines.

The government better take a lot of extra measures.

The religion of bloody peace has arrived.

There isn`t any proof that the bombings mentioned  above has anything to do with the unrest in the Deep South.

Omg don't you read.

Although the crims were never caught, the bombs themselves were certainly known to be the same used in the south. As in every bombing since 2014 the government has tried desperately to link them to "a certain political group "

They always come up empty and clearly the above came from the south.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but taksin had nothing to do with any of them.

Why bring Thaksin into this? And until the day they bring the perpatrators to justice I will not draw any conclusion to who did the bombings 2 weeks ago, unlike some other TV members :coffee1:............................

Didn't the Police Chief say only yesterday 20 Muslims from the deep South were suspected of the bombings and also previous attacks in the South?

And before the coup those would have been paraded in front of the media ASAP.Nowadays the Police Chief might as well has detained 20 donkeys.Under the current martial law suspects doesn`t have the constitutional legal rights normally entitled to them,so they can as such be hidden away from lawyers, press and family.

I went to Pattini and Yala area years ago with my Thai family from BKK,

they were nervous all the time we were there  on our day stop over,

We had taken a train overnight and got in to Hat Yai at 7AM did our temple

tour, and were on the train back to Bangkok by that evening.  I did feel

less relaxed as well,  as most people around us did not dress as we did

and it was great to be back in BKK.  I would never want to go to the south,

now,  as the unrest has gotten out of hand. The bombings are ridiculous ,

I do feel sorry for the innocent people there who have suffered so much.

Geezer

No it isn't.

It's an indication that the southern conflict is ongoing.

Its not, as the alarmists would have us believe, the start of a civil war.

Anthony Davis sums up what everyone knows and has suspected for a long time. Forget Thaksin as public enemy number one and put all your men and resources on disarming this terrorist group the BRN.

Since Thaksin met with BRN leaders several times in Dobuy and elsewhere overseas, perhaps he could help the investigation by reaching out to the BRN? According to this article they prefer Thaksin as he ' can avoid rules and skip loopholes':

The Barisan Revolusi Nasional’s lead negotiator effectively torpedoed the discussions in 2013 when he laid out five demands in a video posted on YouTube. In the video the negotiator, Hassan Taib, said insurgents required Bangkok to recognize a new independent state encompassing the provinces of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani. which made up much of the former Sultanate of Patani. The Sultanate was annexed by the old kingdom of Siam in the early 20th century.

The second Pattani car bomb victim died at hospital

And from reuters:-

Talks between the government and a handful of shadowy insurgent groups began in 2013 under the civilian government of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, but have stalled since the military overthrew her in 2014.

No group has claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack but experts say the attacks would appear to reflect frustration over the stalled negotiations.

PATTANI, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- A remand order has been issued by the Thai Military for the two ambulance drivers involved in Tuesday night's bomb attack near here, which left one woman dead and 34 others injured.

Military Spokesman Colonel Pramoth Prom-in said that the military court has issued a seven day remand, beginning Friday for both suspects.

"If investigations reveal that there is no evidence linking them (the suspects) to the stolen ambulance or links between them and any Pattani militant groups, they would be released in seven days," Pramoth said Thursday.

However, if investigations revealed otherwise, the suspects would be remanded for 21 days before being brought to court.
