Police: Man shouts 'Allahu akbar' in Australian knife attack

SYDNEY (AP) — Police say a French man shouting the Arabic phrase "Allahu akbar" stabbed a British woman to death and wounded two men in an attack at a hostel in northeast Australia.

Queensland Police Service Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said on Wednesday that the 29-year-old suspect did not have any known links to the Islamic State group and appeared to have acted alone. Police were still investigating the motive behind the attack and will consider whether mental health issues or drug use was a factor.

The attack took place on Tuesday night at a hostel in the town of Home Hill in northern Queensland. Police say a 21-year-old British woman was found dead at the scene and a 30-year-old British man was in critical condition.

Mental health? Drug issues?? Well it looks like a real tough one to solve. Could the "Allahu Akbar" be some sort of clue as to the motive?????

Lets cut the PC bullcrap.

Anybody screaming  "Allahu akbar"  as they ( Insert word ) someone, is a plucking mental case.

It is not mental health issues that are the primary cause of all these stabbing attacks.

I am so relieved that it is "only" mental illness. Islamic Jihad is only an urban myth. :whistling:

It is time that most people get the number for their nearest Nut House on speed dial.

It would appear that the world is heading for a full scale epidemic of Nut Cases and it is growing and spreading rapidly.

French man, British woman, troublesome Europeans. Obviously a case of mental illness.

p.s And what of the Belgian woman stabbing three people. Do we take mental illness as read and search in bafflement for the lack of another common denominator?

New Personal Rule: If anybody shouts Allahu Akbar in your hearing, drop him with whatever comes to hand. I'd rather a court case than a funeral.

Not PC, AP omitted some content from the police advisory...

“Initial inquiries indicate that comments that may be construed of being of an extremist nature were made by the alleged offender,” Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said. “While this information will be factored into the investigation we are not ruling out any motivations at this early stage whether they be political or criminal.

One of the Australian newspapers described the attached as a "French Gentleman" and this appeared to be a quote from a police officer.

He's clearly neither.  Cut the PC crap - it's not helping.

There is no '' Alleged offender '' There are over 30 witnesses.

There is nothing to be construed about the shouts of  '' Alluha Akhbar '' it only has 1 meaning when the shouter is swinging a sharp bladed instrument and killing people.

Anything else is PC Horse Manure.

Australian media and authorities don't mention the word islam as muslims and apologists start screaming racism even tho islam isn't a race.  People are afraid to link islam to this as being branded a racist is worse than being branded a paedophile.  The racism card in Australia is the most powerful thing carried by apologists.

I am sure you're well aware it's legal terminology, until convicted police & media are absolutely required to use the term 'alleged'.

Whether he yelled God is Great ( I think that is the translation ) or said nothing

He is certainly not using his full bag of marbles, unfortunately for us Australian tax payers we will have to pay to support him for his term in either prison or a mental institute.  Too bad we don't have a death penalty

It is only alleged when one is a suspect with no, or very little evidence against you.

When there is 30 eye witnesses there is nothing alleged about it, nor are you a suspect. You just have not been to Court and found guilty.

It is not legal terminology it is PC Horse manure terminology.

Incorrect.

Then you will be very happy to provide a link to the relevant legislative rules and regulations that covers this:

Worldwide jihadism seems to have become nothing less a hysteria, now affecting ordinary people.

No Jihadism here.

Only mentally unstable people, easily identified by the shouting of '' Alluha Akbar '' which has been one of the Worlds greatest cons.

It does not mean God is Great, it really means '' I am a Nut Case ''

You actually have no proof the number of nut cases is growing and spreading.  The only thing that is growing and spreading is the reporting of these attacks that before would barely get a mention in local news.

There were likely hundreds of thousands random acts of violence around the world today with hundreds killed, but the AP choose to put this one act on the wire. Why would that be?

It's called confirmation bias, and the media is actively contributing to this, not due to any conspiracy,  but chasing ratings and revenue that comes from having high ones.

No, I think I am correct in saying that they are growing and spreading.

Need proof, try looking in Europe, been happening there a lot.

Now it has popped up on Australia, by a French man.

Either that or the press has been doing what a lot of people have been claiming on these TV pages and  the press have actually been suppressing information regarding Nut Jobs of the Islamic variety.

Cannot have it both ways.

You don't think people have the right to know that besides the usual reasons they may suffer violence, they may also be attacked because members of a religion think it will please their imaginary friend? Or that members of that religion may take serious offense and react violently to actions you would not otherwise consider dangerous?
