BANGKOK: -- Police commissioner Sanit Mahathavorn is taking a personal interesting in the investigation into the death of the honours student who died at Bangkok's iconic Golden Mount temple on Sunday last week.

CCTV evidence shows that the victim - 28 year old Narawut Phuangkasen - was walking all about the temple in the early hours of the morning, reported Daily News.

He was seen waving his hands in the manner of a flapping bird at one point though the significance of this is yet to be explained.

A nun heard a scream made by a man at 5.30am followed by the sound of a temple bell. She was scared so did not go to investigate but called in police who found the body face up.

Blood was found around the bell and all around the corpse that was on level three of the walkway up the downtown Bangkok monument.

Sanit went to the scene of the suspected murder yesterday after an hour long meeting with Samranrat station police to discuss developments in the case that is captivating the Thai public.

Sanit said that no conclusions could yet be drawn in the case that is complex. The background of the victim is being closely examined including his online and social media activity.

Witness statements and evidence is still being gathered though it was revealed that among the groups of people being interviewed were nuns, monks, cleaners and Burmese people.

The victim had a fractured skull and a 5 centimeter gash to the forehead.

The parents are still in a state of shock though they are expected to give evidence tomorrow as soon as their son's funeral arrangements are completed.

The victim graduated only two months ago from Bangkok University.

Burmese?? No need for any further investigation then!

definitely the work of the local evil spirits and ghosts,  even the nun was afraid to confront them:blink:, will be interesting to see what the police come up with in this but as they have Burmese to question they may wrap it up pretty quick

My sociological analysis: The young man didn't seem to be in his right mind - drink, dugs, depression or combo of these. He was causing a disturbance around the temple in the middle of the night and was accosted by some representative of the temple. It turned into a nasty fight, during which perhaps someone's mother was insulted.

If there was some delay in reporting this event, that implies there has been some sensitive behind-the-scenes goings-on. I shall only add that it  seems likely that the security camera was disabled after the event to cover the murder, so they need first to speak to whoever has access to the (now deleted) security camera footage.

BANGKOK: -- The metropolitan police are investigating the mystery surrounding the death of a Bangkok University's graduate if he attempted to take his own life or was assaulted while walking meditation at Phu Khao Thong (Golden Mountain) inside Wat Saket temple last week.

The graduate was found lying unconsiously with head injury and was rushed to hospital but died later.

Initial investigation indicated he took his own life from stress.

But the theory was later changed after blood stains were found on the temple bell and adjacent makeshift hut.

Video footages at the temple captured him walking meditation several rounds up and down the stairs of the mountain temple.

Acting commissioner of Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn said police investigators would reinvestigate after blood stains were found at a temple bell and the makeshift hut.

Blood samples and finger prints at both places would be tested if they matched his blood or not, he said.

He said the victim’s parents were appointed to see the investigators today to look into other possible cause in case of suicide attempt.

So far police haven’t ruled out any possibility, he said.

He said the graduate was seen in the video footage of the temple walking meditation for an hour from 03.17 am till 04.02 am.

He said at 05.30 am, a nun at the temple heard noisy shouts as if the noise maker was trying to relief himself from stress.

Shortly afterwards, sound of bell hitting was heard a moment and then silence returned, he said.

He said at 06.30 am, a monk walked up the stairs to clean the areas, he found the graduate lying unconsiously on the ground.

He alerted rescue workers who later arrived and rushed him to hospital, the acting commissioner added.
