I have been trying to download some torrents lately and there are lots

of strange things happening.

TORRENTZ was the search engine I used to use but that doesn't work any more.

Having trouble with Pirate bay too.

When I search with Google I get yiffy torrents.

Has something happened like sites being closed and opening up with a new name.

Maybe  need..............

Where do you go to search for and find torrents these days.

Kodi with 'Exodus' add-on ......... enable download, and you can download any video you can stream.

You can also view the downloading file while it is downloading, using 'my downloads' in Exodus.

many are working just fine…but I don't use them…streaming is way safer.

I think it's hard to stream super high def with 7.1 surround sound????  My last movie download was 13GB.

No, it's not.

1080p (the max. my TV displays) streams are awesome, but I'm not certain about the audio codecs? My display says "AAC", sounds fine to me but I don't have any sort of home theater sound system.

Audio is about 1/2 of a files size.  The speakers on my pretty good TV suck.  The surround sound system is amazing.  But yes, if you don't have the equipment (HDTV, surround sound, etc), then the high end downloads are not worth the effort.  For the stuff my wife watches, on our older TV, I get lower quality downloads.  Her ears are better than mine! LOL

I love streaming video-on-demand, and I use it all the time for casual movie watching and preschooler entertaining, but I would never give up my Blu-ray player. When it comes to serious movie watching through my home theater system, when I want not only the best A/V experience but the best movie-watching experience, Blu-ray is still the way to go...and here are a few reasons why.

i stream 1080p no problem…how much more do you need?

I stream at 320p ( Filmon low quality )   still occasional buffering

YIFY  movies      720P  @ 800-1200 MB per movie.

ETTV for series 720P  @ 200-300 MB per episode.

guaranteed no buffering can also watch when the internet is down.

sometimes you can get a letter from your isp for torrenting the wrong torrents….new films etc. Not so much in asia though so torrent on.

Now you're just being silly defending a position which doesn't need defending as there is a case to be made for both torrenting and streaming.

By the time you've found some torrent, uploaded by some schmoe living in his mom's basement, which he ripped off a DVD or maybe a Blu-Ray, using god-knows what kind of compression/codec, I've already selected and started a movie in 1080p (Full HD: 1920x1080), which my TV supports, and my TV speakers don't suck. By the time you've downloaded your 13 GB file, been running a PC, creating heat and using too much electricity, and filling up a hard drive, I've moved on to another film. Yes, you have your film forever, or at least you have to delete to make room on your hard drive. And why stop at 13 GB? Surely a 44 GB rip would be better?

Streaming in 1080p works fine for me as I have the network and equipment to do so. And it is infinitely easier, which was my main point. But I do have a fair amount of 1080p/BR rips (which I downloaded) on my NAS which I stream off to my TV, using an app on my phone as a guide/remote.

I might question if you could really tell the difference in a "blind" side-by-side test of the various audio codec schemes (AAC vs. DTS for example), even on your amazing surround sound system, unless you are still a teenager.

Got a letter from British Telecom years ago  saying that  our household ( 6 early -late teenagers )  had used over 90 Gigabytes per month  and if we didn't stop they would have to take us off the "unlimited"   1 Mbps/512 Kbps package

next month we managed to get down to a "measly" 30 Gigabytes   :w00t:

Thats not the kind of letter you get for torrenting….its usual a cease and desist letter….with more action to follow if you persist.

Never acknowledge, open or even read such letters….just file them in the bin.

Agreed!  I do both, but not for my movies.  I get my movies mainly from RARBG.  Quality torrents, with a wide selection of quality.  With high DL speeds, I get the movie in no time.  Heat, electricity?  Not sure what's up with that comment.  But yes, it takes a bit more time.  And worth the wait.  Have you seen a movie in true BR on a nice 1080HD TV with 7.1 surround sound?  WOW.  Depending on the movie, I go from full BR to a YIFY type file.

I'm a movie nut.  Always have been.  And yes, I can tell the difference between a full BR rip and a YIFY rip.  Easy.

Based on your replies here I now see that you do not understand what we mean when we talk about streaming 1080p.

I'll leave it at that.

Did you read that link I posted?  It'd help to explain my postion.  I did say I do both streaming and downloads.

Lucky I did not have that problem here.  I have had months where I have hit around 2TB over a 3bb ADSL line (balanced by a few with much less).... no letter :P
