Man Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison For Murder

A Chula staff member sentenced to 12 years for killing a man in a fight

The Criminal Court sentenced to 12 years Friday an employee of Chulalongkorn University who was found guilty of killing a man after he urinated in front of his house last year. :o

Last March, at 1.30am, merchant Suthan Ithisirising, 45, enjoyed a party in Bangkok's Bang Sue neighbourhood and later urinated in front of house of 47-year-old university lab assistant, Santilak Thanyahan.

Santilak fired a gun twice in the air leading to the two quarrelled briefly. Suthan's friends tried to stop them from fighting and Santilak thus shot at the group and the bullet hit Suthan in the chest, killing him at the scene.

The court saw the Santilak's claim - that the gun was accidentally fired and he had no intention to kill Suthan - as not convincing because the bullet should not hit Suthan who stood behind him.

The court sentenced Santilak to 12 years and six days in jail for murdering and using a gun in public. Since Santilak had a one-year suspended jail term for an assault charge, he would serve 13 years and six days in jail.

The original news report:

Drinks turn deadly

A university lab assistant allegedly shot and killed a merchant on Wednesday night, after he urinated in front of the assistant’s house.

Santilak Thanyahan, 46, an employee of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and the merchant, 45-year-old Suthan Ithisirising, were drinking at the same establishment.

Santilak left and fired a gun twice in the air before going home next door.

Witness Kiethisak Sukriti, 36, told police that Suthan later urinated in front of Santilak’s house.

The two quarrelled briefly before Suthan was shot once from inside the house.

Santilak fled on a motorcycle, before surrendering to police.

Poor aim. :D

The amazing part of this is that the decessed stood around and argued with the guy even after two shots were fired! I would have run at least two blocks BEFORE zipping up if I had been in that situation.

In the west we piss in the backyard, Thais piss in the front of the house. Must be cultural.

Since Santilak had a one-year suspended jail term for an assault charge,

I wonder what gave the court the idea that he might lie about wanting to hurt the guy or not...
