National Games Prep Underway

For 11 days between October 25 and November 5, an inaugural National Games will be organized by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport it was revealed earlier this week. With interest in sport at a high following the exploits of the Cambodian National football team and Rio Olympic Athletes, the two government bodies hope to boost interest and help aid the development of budding athletes.
 

Sports that are expected to be included in the inaugural Games are athletics, swimming, boxing, badminton, basketball, Kun Khmer and Bokator, football, wrestling, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, tennis, petanque, acrobatics. Sean Borat, secretary of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, presided over a meeting on Thursday to discuss recommendations on procedures, athletes and federation registration.
 

Officials from the Department of Youth and Sports representing 25 provinces, the Ministry of Defense and 14 national federations were also in attendance. “Participation and organizing of National Games is the duty of all of us who represent the citizens of Cambodia. So the world can see that Cambodia is a country with great potential for sport,” said Mr. Borat.
