National Rice Policy Commission steps up finalization of rice scheme damage tally

BANGKOK, 14 September 2016 (NNT) – The National Rice Policy Commission has expedited its tallying of the damages from the previous government’s rice-pledging scheme to ensure the case can be finalized before the expiry of its statute of limitation.

Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, as chairman of the National Rice Policy Commission, has pressed the body to finalize damages from the failed rice-pledging scheme to be attributed to former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who has been faulted for neglecting her duties to maintain the integrity of the program and causing 500 million baht in lost revenue for the state. He cautioned that the expiration date of the case is approaching.

The premier let on that the latest meeting of the commission also reviewed and discussed reports on the falling price of farm goods, acknowledging that Thailand is still highly dependent on the export of rice and is need of state programs to support rice farmers. He made known it was decided more technological innovations must be employed to remedy the situation.

The Ministry of Commerce has prepared a report on issues being faced by farmers and possible assistance measures, including for the government’s large plot farm scheme. The ministry is to propose a complete database for rice be compiled to enhance the sector with information to be collected on the amount of farmers, seed stores and farming areas.

Is this a different committee to the one that has already come up with the final figures of the loss, as reported barely over a week ago?

What was said earlier to day about avoiding any duplicated probes?

really wonder why they drag these things out. must be a massive movement of brown envelopes moving around the legal system trying to speed up or slow this case down. yingluck is still the preferred prime minister  for the red shirt masses and they are going to miss their golden chance to shut her down.

Or triplicate?

In August 2016 Deputy Finance Minister Wisut Srisuphan told lawmakers at the parliament that the loss incurred during the Yingluck administration was estimated at about 536 billion baht while the previous governments (Abhisit) were accountable for loss amounting to 163 billion baht.
