I am looking at putting in a couple hundred meters of hedge. Since sai gawli is a ficus, I am guessing it is pretty easy to propagate. Anybody know? Would stem cuttings take pretty easily? Saw on another forum that cinnamon powder works as a 'natural' rooting hormone, anybody ever try this? Thanks for any constructive suggestions.

 

Never heard of it. I was a botanist. My wife knows plants very well, she never heard of it. Google never heard of it. This is why Latin nomenclature was invented, so sorry, I can't help.

Try googling ficus cuttings.

Right. I enjoy doing this kind of thing. IT SEEMS TO ME: (meaning this is a semi scientific guess) that you have Korean Sai, labelled as being the Bangkok name,  Ficus Korea otherwise in Thailand.  . Google Ixora, that is my preferred hedge, easy to prpagate and flowering all the year, that was my choice.

Ficus annulata is the word we need. I think

Thanks for the information. These plants would be put on the edge of the property with a neighbor next door that sprays chemicals all the time. I think the density of the ficus should work a little better than the Ixora in stopping a portion of the spray, especially since it will get tall much quicker. 

I have asked a few Thai people about Cinnamon, no one has heard of using it! 

Some use Vitamin B, which some garden shops have...

 

I've never tried Ficus, but plants I have tried I just put in a pot or the ground and find usually takes about a month to root....  But keeping foliage damp a few times during to day is important, although the plastic bag is a good idea too!  I would take off more leaves than shown in the video.
