Bangkok entertainment raids continue - promotions encouraging drinking targeted!

BANGKOK: -- Police continued their raids on entertainment venues in Bangkok with one in the Kaset-Nawamin area last night.

 

The area is popular with mainly a Thai clientele, reported Sanook.

 

Police found a host of things wrong with the pub, that was not named by sanook.com, apart from the opening after hours complaints from the public that brought them there in the first place.

 

One of the more interesting misdemeanors of the venue was that it was promoting alcohol consumption in the fashion of "the more you drink the more you save". This is illegal.

 

In addition:

 

Six people were found to have consumed crystal meth or "ice".

 

The fire door was locked and there was no fire fighting equipment.

 

There was an illegal extension - not in opening hours but in the building itself.

 

People were allowed entry without showing Thai ID.

 

Seven illegal radios were found - there was a suggestion these were used to monitor police activity in the area

 

The pub in question has been opened 12 years and the authorities are investigating if the license was acquired legally or not.

These police must have been in Australia , they are all killjoys good luck with this you have many more pressing issue s  so you must take the one that is the least priority first .

Yes, I agree, locked firedoors have been known to kill a lot of joy in crowded night clubs/pubs..

 

They ought to have bought better radios. Didn't quite work well enough in advance notice of the raid.

wasn't the Santika club that burned and killed 66 people was bed enough example as how

entertainments venues should be safe, or that lesson has been forgotten already.......

Thailand, the land of spoilsports.... 

The crackdowns have to at least be consistent and looking after the people. The fact that most of the facilities that they are hitting are Thai service based is interesting.  This is noting against the Tourist crowd.  BUT it will make Thailand safer for Thais

...and going to a pub the alternative in the cops mind is what? Reading the core values over a glass of water, listen to Prayuth's No 1 hits while the owner drowns in bills?

Well so far most all reports seem to be about places either open after legal hours regularly,

and/or underaged sex trade.  So I guess we shouldn't whine too hard.

 

I have no particular problem with after hours clubs,

as long as they are discreet and don't disturb neighbors.

 

But this also goes to cutting back on the tea money streams of police who look the other way in their districts. 

And those that percentages filter up to above them of course.

Police closed the bars on Sukhumvit Soi 11 at midnight last night.  

I was in Oskar Bar.  

Does not bode well for Bangkok's nightlife scene and business owners and will drive tourists away in droves once word gets out that Bangkok isn't party friendly.

Bad enough that there are such draconian anti drug laws, but if you can't even drink past midnight how are you supposed to have fun.

police have chosen to do raids before the military can so at least they can extract some cash in doing so since the military doesnt seem to test urine or do body searches just make a point of the venues breaking laws

Funny, about 8 senior BIB walked through Soi Cowboy last night around 9pm.  They were laughing and joking with each other. not even looking at any of the bars.   On leaving they walked by all the illegal beer bars set up on the sidewalks on Asoke without even batting an eye.  I guess they didn't notice all the illegally parked motorcycles blocling the bus stop and sidewalk heading north from Cowboy???  Hate to see the carnage if people had to evacuate Cowboy in a hurry!!!!!!

So It is OK to do drugs in Aussie Pubs ? , Add on to building, no permit ? No carry id in bars ?

No need to carry ID . If you are suspected of being under 18 they can ask for proof and if not provided you will be refused service. 

Building violations are a local council issue. 

 

Drugs well that is problematical. 

Thailand is riddled with crime and corruption, but rather then have a measured legal approach to the problems, this government seems to single out the odd issue here and there and publicise it in order to give the appearance of doing something. However the more one looks at their efforts, the more one gets the impression that the decisions and people and issues targeted are not so much in the national interest as having the misfortune to be on a list of things someone in authority has personally taken a dislike to.

By midnight one should be well into nocturnal activities with the catch of the day. Anything worthy is snatched before 11pm.

They may not be consistent....they may not be thorough...but at least they are doing SOMETHING , which in light of the long period of unenforced rules is a step in the right direction.

So if its illegal to open after hours how come theres so many street bars open till 6.00am every day.

2 years ongoing here in Chiang Mai - ofc you can find your drink after 12, but it takes a bit of effort or local know-how, but certainly the scene is still there - just out of public eye. Have to concur it does not bode well on the outlook of tourism, if you need to use side/back/hidden entrances for such a simple thing as beer with friends after hours, but that's what we got at the moment.

The  Junta does not like the bar industry; the sex industry and drugs and is intent on cleaning it up. Many times the raids are by the military and the local authorities. The Junta doesn't  care about Western tourism because it is  in decline anyway and easily replaced by the Chinese, indians, and up scale Thais none of whom need Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy or any of the other  western oriented ares.   In addition, the bar owners are there own worst enemies- raising prices too high to be competitive with other countries; trying to stay open after hours and allowing drugs on their premises. Pattaya is in the same mode.  If you want late night drinking- some is still available- but I wouldn't go in without a passport in hand.

don't forget the tiger club in phuket as well....

 

Night club owners are fully aware of the crackdowns yet they continue to break the rules.....just GREEDY

If there was real justice the owners and operators of this venue should be on chargers of "endangering life" with potentially a few years "at his majesty's pleasure" as a warning to others about ignoring safety...

Hoi North Koreans ...take notice....you could open "protected pubs and areas" to attract frustrated sex tourists away from Thailand
