Getting a Certificate of Residency - my experience (living in a hotel on a tourist visa)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I thought I'd put something up about getting a residency certificate in case anyone had questions. This was my experience...

I needed a certificate because I was purchasing a motorbike, and this document was a requirement of that process. I'm on a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) fyi. I went to the Immigration office in Patong (Closed between 12 and 1) and then returned when it reopened. I had the following docs:

-A letter from my hotel with check in/out dates signed by the manager, my room number, and a copy of the paid invoice. The official form asks for Yellow book or home owner ID or Lease Agreement but this was absolutely not necessary in my case.

-Passport & Visa

-Departure Card

-Completed C of R form (you can fill in at the office)

-Photocopies of all above

-2 x passport sized pics

-500 thb fee.

They took all the paperwork and handed it to one of the girls at the desk, I waited 10 mins and it was returned to me with the originals I provided. Very very straight forward. The office was busy but the queue moved fast.

Note - my certificate was held after my purchase, meaning that if I were to need one again for something else, I'd have to do it all again! Didn't know that until I bought the bike, but just something to be aware of - they're like Get Out of Jail Free cards..
