BANGKOK, 17 September 2016 (NNT) – The soon-to-be secretary general of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Issara Sunthornwat, will take up his post on September 30 of this year. 

Mr Issara will travel to Naypyidaw, Myanmar on September 30 to attend his inauguration ceremony before starting his duties as the new AIPA secretary general on October 1, succeeding Periowsamy Otharam, who is the incumbent secretary general from Singapore. 

AIPA headquarters is in Jakarta, Indonesia where Issara will be stationed. He will be in office for three years as his term will end on September 30, 2019. 

Addressing the press, Issara said he was glad and honored to lead to ASEAN assembly for the next three years, pledging to strengthen cooperation between members of ASEAN. 

He made know that another important mission of his is to raise public awareness of AIPA, helping the general public to understand the assembly and in what way the assembly can be useful to the people.
