Narissarawan

BANGKOK:-- The arraignment of a woman on two defamation related charges for speaking out about the alleged fatal assault of her uncle in a military camp in 2011, has been put on hold.

Prayut Bejraguna, deputy spokesman for the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), said yesterday, "At this point, she will not be prosecuted. The prosecution chief of Narathiwat has asked police to investigate many more points before her alleged defamation can go to the court."

The case involves Narissarawan Kaewnopparat, who has been trying to seek justice for her late uncle.

Finally some sense shown here, if she even has to go to court for this it is utterly despicable. The army unit responsible for the fatal beating are bang to rights and should have zero recourse to punitive legal action, those responsible should be in jail awaiting trial for murder, or at the very least manslaughter. This brave, dignified lady has done NOTHING wrong. All involved in trying to silence her are the scum of the earth :post-4641-1156693976:

About as good as one could hope for considering.

Absolutely I agree with you James. The fact that someone somewhere recommended indictment in the first place is disgraceful enough. Hope it is resolved in the correct manner as quickly as possible. I dare suspect it won't be though, just some cooling off to let it fade from view before going full steam ahead when the next scandal / distraction comes along

And they are investigating 'many more points.'

They are putting pressure on her to just shut up.

NLA should modify the law on defamation if they are serious in tackling corruption.

The wrongdoers should be fearful that the truth is revealed.

Should, but won't. It, alongside the cyber crimes law and article 112 are the only things keeping the masses quiet.

They are maintained specifically because the elite are fearful that the truth is revealed.

And the LM law ...

112 is the LM law.

Silence her and send her for an attitude readjustment.

How dare she question Thai authorities they are always right.  Who does she think she is?

What is with her lack of Thainess!

I wonder how long it will be before Thailand has a French or Russian-style uprising against the elite.

Any potential whistleblower, dobber, canary, nark or snitch will think long and hard before opening their mouths on such matters or informing on those within government agencies or services who are corrupt. As they stand Thai defamation laws are not in the best interest of the country.

Under the circumstances PM Prayut's ambitious promise of an end to corruption in 20 years should possibly be amended to 40+ years.

That's already Thai law. Problem is the burden is on you to prove that what you said is true. And of course that cannot be a defense in lese majeste cases, but apparently this is not.
