When does my tourist visa become valid?

Featured Replies

Hi

Im in UK

If i send my passport for the 2 month tourist visa when does it become valid? When i apply or when i enter thailand?

If i apply now does my 2 months start right away? In which case i need to time getting my visa as close as possible to the travel date.

OR do i choose to state my start date? If thats the case how far in advance can i set the start date?

Thanks

A visa becomes valid when issued (normally have a set time such as 3 months validity) and the allowed stay starts when you enter (which could be on the last day of validity and still allow normal stay and extension of stay.

A single entry tourist visa is valid for entry for 3 months from the date of issue. The 60 day entry from it starts on the date you enter the country.

Single entry visa: OK so if i get 60 day visa. I apply now (day one) i enter thailand on day 50 for example. I can stay until day 80. Is that correct?

If i get multiple entry entry visa:..  I apply now (day one) i enter thailand on day 50. I can enter as many times as i wish until day 230 (50 + 180 days) is this correct? Or the multiple entry starts immediately?

Thanks

no

A single entry tourist visa (SETV) visa will be valid for 3 months from the date of issue, as long as you enter Thailand before the use by/expiry date you will be given a permission to stay stamp of 60 days, day of entry is day 1, the visa is then finished, used, is no more. the permission to stay stamp is the date that now matters.this permission to stay stamp can be extended one time for 30 days at a local immigration office within Thailand (1,900 baht)

A multi entry tourist visa is valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and each entry into Thailand will give you a 60 day permission to stay stamp. if you enter on the last day of validity of the visa you will be given a fresh 60 day permission to stay stamp , the visa in this case will then be finished, used, is no more. each permission to stay stamp can be extended one time for 30 days at a local immigration office within Thailand (1,900 baht)

So basically if a get a multi entry tourist visa now. And in just under 6 months from now i enter. I can only stay 60 days, extend for 30.. and then I'm stuffed because its no longer valid?
