Pink ID card stole by Thai person

Featured Replies

As the title says, my foreign id card was today stolen by a technician from my ISP.

What should I do, and what can I expect, because I don't see how a Thai has any use for it.

Contact your ISP first.   Why do you say the technician stole it?  Any proof?  Did you provide it to the tech because he asked for it for some reason like completing some paperwork he brought along and he just forgot to give it back to you?

Of course identity theft can always be a possibility  but with all the copies everybody makes of everything like ID cards, passports, etc., when getting something done at a govt office, opening a new account of any kind (like internet service or bank accounts), at immigration, etc., there are so many avenues such info is available.    Oh yea, don't forget about the frequent showing of Thai ID cards and passports on Thai TV.

But I think to get a replacement card you will need to file a police report first before going back to the district office to get a new one....which will be identical to the first one except the issue date and maybe expiration date.

isp   ?   thanks

Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Yeah, police report would be good so that you have it on record.   That'll help defend against situations where Somchai says.... oh, yeah, Joe Blow told me to rent this motorcycle/car/boat/etc. and take it to the chop shop, I told him it was a bad idea, but you know... because farang.

Of course I can not proof anything.

The ID card was laying on top of my yellow tabien baan on the cabinet by the door in my office where he had been busy for over an hour

I didn't show him any id, and after he left I knew already something was missing from that location. I couldn't straight remember what was missing, but I knew something was laying on top of that yellow tabien baan.

Then this evening I recalled that it was my pink ID card, which I had taken from the car on Friday to compare it with the number in my yellow book to make this post. I had left it there since nobody else comes in the house.

Maybe he thought it was a Credit card,if he did indeed take it,

He did take it, and yes that was also my thought

Call his office and ask if he accidentally pick it up when he pick up his paperwork.  Just might get it back without loosing face.  I had a micro drive disappear once in Samui when a service guy left.  Called their office and the next day it showed up on my porch. Told them they may have thought it was part of their equipment.

I doubt that the pink card is of any value for a non Thai person.

Not only the color signalizes: ALIEN!!

But also the title of the document clearly says "id card for non Thai national".

It doesn't have a chip.

It's a photo ID.

The name of the foreigner is in Thai script only.

The thief must really have had no idea what he has taking.

Now he has read it and put to the bin.

I also would have no idea what use a Thai would have for a foreign ID card, but then they also have no use for a foreign passport, but they nick them.

What could be possible is the suggestion Heng made, and other than that, I think the card is a substitute for my yellow tabien baan.

Again I don't know what use they have for a yellow tabien baan, but may be I find out the hard way sooner or later.

I don't recall if he brought any documents inside, however I saw him fill in some documents in his car, but they were on a hard clipboard so even if he brought those inside and placed them an top of the card, he could not have mistakenly picked up the card together with the A4 size board.

Instead of just blindly accusing the engineer with no proof of guilt whatever. Why don't you ring his company as other posters have said instead of banging on on an anonymous forum get a grip

Did anyone force you to read or respond to this thread?

I have called his company already, but did you expect that a thieve would say, oh they found out so I'll admit it then right away? Guess you should get a grip.

And no proof? Do iD cards have wings these days? I know exact location where the card was laying and nobody been in the house since the day I placed it there, so there are no doubts where it has disappeared to.

I also know always exactly where I left things. But when I can't find them they still seem to turn up at unexpected places a few days or even longer later. Yes, sometimes it seems they have wings, but I must admit I do suspect I have simply misplaced them, and my memory is playing tricks.

Maybe you're right, but maybe you're wrong, don't discard that second possibility out of hand simply because 'you know where you left it'.

i was merely commenting on a thread which you started. if you don't want people to respond with messages you don't like don't start a thread. you band the word thief around without the slightest bit of proof. Why would anyone want a totally useless to anyone except you pink foreigners ID card?????

I know that feeling, and this happens to me also, but not with this card.

As you can motice from a previous post, the card normally is in the car and I got it out of there Friday night to compare the number with my yellow book number, and left both items on top of each other. The card was supposed to be returned to the car, where it belongs, but in the mean time it was laying on the corner of the cabinet next to the door of the office so that I noticed it every time I passd.

I also knew right from the moment he left that something was missing from that exact location, but it wasn't till evening till I figured out what was missing.

Probably because at first glance he thought it was a credit card????????????????

With me in the room as well he didn't have the time to thoroughly inspect the card, but easy to remove without me noticing, by laying something on to and then pick it up or however.

I never can have proof, since there is no CCTV coverage of the action, but I know damn well that the card was in that exact position before he left.

If you say so. Looks nothing like a credit card by the way. I've never seen a credit card with someone's mug shot on it.

Some, I think especially from the USA, do have photos on it.

I could be that the card was laying face down, I don't recall that, so he would only see the shape of the card inside the cover.

Just found out also that he's new on the job, which I had noticed already since he didn't have a clue about what he's doing, as he had to make a constant voice contact and even enable Teamviewer so another technician could change the settings in the modem.

Maybe he looked for a job with opportunities to get inside houses. I'll make sure that the outside cameras will record continuously in the next few weeks.

[Now your trying to add things that were never there. Personally I don't belive you the story is so full of holes it's pathetic.

What did I add to the story. I just found out that he is new on the job this afternoon when I visited the head office from my ISP.

That he didn't know what he was doing has no relation to the theft, so no point to mention it previously.

If this pathetic to you, feel free to ignore this thread or even my username, as I said already nobody forces you to read this thread.

Anyway, since we are talking about pathetic, what was your previous username?
