Somali Islamist attack kills three in restaurant

 

 

Somali Islamist group al Shabaab bombed a restaurant frequented by members of the security forces in Mogadishu on Saturday, killing at least three people, officials said.

 

Police said a suicide car bomb rammed the Blue Sky restaurant in the capital, which is located near a detention centre, known as Jilaow, where militants are often held in underground cells.

 

Al Shabaab frequently launches attacks in Mogadishu in its bid to topple the Western-backed government.

 

Abdifatah Omar, a spokesman for Mogadishu’s local government, said at the scene that three people had been confirmed dead so far and four others were injured.

 

“We targeted the security forces and officers of the underground Jilaow cell who were there,” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab’s military operations spokesman, told Reuters, adding that at least 10 people were killed.

 

He did not say whether a suicide car bomb was used in the attack, although the group often uses such tactics.

 

Casualty figures given by al Shabaab and officials often differ.

Time for the West to do more to help the Somalis and other countries eradicate this group of religious thugs.

 

Maybe after Obama is gone we can have some boots on the ground.

So here is the thing - what right do you have to have boots on the ground in Somalia? The answer is zero. It is because the US has had a foreign policy of 'putting boots on the ground' where they have no sovereign right to do so that the Middle East is in such a dire mess.

 

How about the Brits or Saudi's or Russians decide to put boots on the ground in the USA after you have incidents like Orlando, Columbine etc etc? Not sure you would welcome that. Keep your boots on your own ground and defend yourselves if and when conflict comes to you.

There must be some mistake here, somali muslims are a paragons of peace and goodness, quality people !

I said it was time the West did more to help - not invade!    - and that was assuming Somalia would ask for help, just like they asked the Russians for help.

After Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria do you think any Muslim country would ever ask the West for help? What an indictment on us - they asked the Russians to help.

I fully share this view.

History has shown that interventions of west to provide a solution to domestic problems always ends badly.

As seen here, the confusion between assistance and occupation immediately comes to the mind and would be immediately used by the protagonists to make us bear responsibility for losses and massacres.

There is also a dignity issue. The people refuse imposition of a way of life, although it is apparently more comfortable. CF Vietnam aphganistan, Iran, Iraq, Algeria, South Africa ... And other surely.

 

Somalis must find their own solutions to these recurring attacks.

If my grandson was asked to fight in Somalia or any other of those screwed up nations in the middle east or Africa I would pay his way here to defect. We have done no good anywhere we go and I'm tired of throwing good lives away for some reason none of us even understand. Lets get the hell out and let them fight each other forever if they want.
