The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Constitution Drafting Commission voted Tuesday to send the final draft of the new constitution to Prime Minster Prayut Chan-o-cha next Tuesday, CDC spokesman Norachit Sinhaseni said.

Prayut will then send the draft for a royal assent and enactment as the new constitution of Thailand.

Thailand's Charter, a Meal-Ready-to-Eat from the Army canteen:

First you draft a charter. Then you publicly discuss it without any debate or criticism. Then you hold a public referendum to ratify the charter. Then you tell the Constitutional Court to preapprove any changes or additions to the charter. Then you make changes and additions to the charter. Then you send it to the palace to be endorsed.

it's a bit spicy, could give you the runs.

Well is this the document everyone should have voted on in the first place?

What a total farce.

seems odd to vote on something that can be changed

Farce, tragedy, twilight zone, Bizarro World - take your pick.

Maybe one of the junta supporters can tell me what it was they held a referendum about?

Better to get it done. Let people vote for new Government.

And whatever side lost the election, will start to protest in the streets in 2-3 years.

Same as it has been the the last 60 years. I think there have been 22-23 coups, in Thailand.

I hope it ends one day.

The only true Democracy is.... People vote in Government and if no good, then the people vote them out.

Good luck to all Thai People.

What's the point voting for a new parliament. Prayut can use Sec 44 and dissolve it if he doesn't like it. No questions asked, no explanation necessary. He has the power.

Well he has the guns but I doubt really the power. When people's rights are infringed enough there will be a revolt.

must be a reason why no previous military gov didn't give itself such powers?

How many drafts have there been so far?  I have lost count!  Voting on a draft in the referendum which can then be changes at will, reminds me of all the people in the UK who voted for Tony Blair, the leader of the Labour Party, only to discover that, when he became Prime Minister,  they had in fact voted for a closet Conservative.  Not necessarily a bad thing for the country, but a bit misleading for the Labour voters.

Mind you they voted for him twice more, and the last time we got Bruin!

I hope that your analogy does not extend that far!
