Wife making a concoction to wash her hair with....so not actually consuming this but basically a soup made with Limes, Aloe Vera and ginger. Happy with a shelf life of 3 months or so. Do we need to use a preservative? Have seen baking soda or cream of tartar suggested on the Web but not sure if ok or how much to use. She does a batch of 2 liters of liquid. Any help appreciated

Borax is widely used as a preservative in cosmetics.  Would do the trick.

Baking soda and cream of tartar are not preservatives AFAIK.
